My friend Dan who I took my 9 day motorcycle trip with in Feb was killed Thursday July, 16 during an insurgent attack at a base in Basra, Iraq. I thought Id post up since he met several Badwebers on our trip. He rode a Gsxr but had a respect for the Buell.

Dan, You will be missed. I hope the roads are smooth and curvy up there.

Mike,

I am so sorry to hear this. I can't even imagine how this hurts.

I was so excited to get to meet you guys for your Florida trip.

I know he was a new rider. He mentioned to me how excited he was to be getting to go on this trip with you and how much the trip was going to mean to him as he went over seas.

If it's any consolation, I can't imagine that his trip with you wasn't something that he thought about often and fondly.

Peace Dan and thank you for standing on that wall and giving your all so that we might sleep safely tonight.

This really hurts to hear. The cost of freedom is never fully in focus until something like this happens.

My deepest condolences to his family and deepest gratitude to Dan for defending the freedoms we enjoy.

If you have an address for the family, I'd like to write them a letter.

The weirdest part for me is it doesn't feel real yet. He came back on leave just last week. I sat and talked to him for a couple of hours. He mentioned to me that the bike trip was one of the most fun things he had ever done. We were planning on doing it again when he returned.I thought it odd that he was back so early on leave but I'm grateful his family and I got to see him one last time before this tragedy.

Three Soldiers from the 34th died in that attack, another wounded. We held a memorial service at the camp as the last soldier was loaded on to the helo. It is a terrible feeling, and shocking reality. If there is anything I can do for you here let me know.

I am so sorry to hear that. If he had the same outlook as I do about the Army, he died doing what he loved. I spent one tour in Iraq myself. It is always hard to swallow when a fellow comrade make the ultimate sacrifice for his country. But we all have to remember that "Freedom is not Free".

He did very much. He believed in the cause and was very proud/happy to be doing it.

This hurts..

As a Patriot Guard Rider member I was hoping that I'd never have to do another mission.

There will be 4 this week.....

RIP Dan, you have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
I will proudly stand in your honor guard line for you and your fellow defenders of freedom.

I’m sorry for your loss. I find it so awe inspiring the way so many young Americans bravely fight to
the death in defense of the ideals that keep us free.
