I currently have 92 apps (pre-loaded, 'aftermarket', and web shortcuts) on my iphone, with others that have been since removed.

Apps are what make the iPhone the iPhone - wihtout them, you wasted a lot of money.

I have everything from racing games to flight simulators, newspaper apps to tide charts, skiing maps and conditions app to AIM, mortgage calculator to Facebook and myspace, move reviews and times to a virtual drumset, I even have an electronic tuning fork, a vibrator app (for the chick), and an app that will me take a picture of well endowed female and have her jiggly bits jiggle when I shake the phone.

I don't use everything, obviously, but the entertainment is endless when on a plane or a road trip. And the stuff it can do with the network and GPS is just really cool.

You want apps. Start by looking the top 50 free ones - things like weather and really useful stuff like that will show up - I use the Weather Channel nearly everyday. Great for seeing what riding conditions are like.

Blake - the auto refresh is annoying at times - especially if you leave a page and what to come back to it later, but it may have changed in the meantime (which I suspect is the basic issue you've found). If there's a way to disable it, I would do it as well. The phone isn't perfect, but I think it's REALLY good.

Moto GP live timing is another great app, dyno is fairly accurate and shazam for that song you cant remember the name of. Tons of useful apps out there but also a bunch of crap out there as well.

There is more to the story than what is being widely published.

The company that submitted 1984 to Amazon didn't even have the rights to do it.
Some how in the approval process Amazon let it slip by (things can happen when you have ~350k of books to deal with).

This is true, but what I and many find irksome is that they are reaching into your device and changing things after the fact.

DRM is an attempt to make virtual items (electronic software/music/books) behave by the rules of physical objects. If they had published and sold those books as real books (like they want to pretend the kindle editions are) - they'd not be able to recall them. All they could do is stop selling the copies they had on hand and settle with the rights owner the old fashioned way.

Amazon is abusing their power by retroactively applying changes to purchases that have already been made. This is not the first kirfuffle and it will not be their last. Just ask yourself - what other thing(s) would you be willing to buy and pay for on the up & up, to be taken away or restricted later at any random time...

I have a blackberry storm. It can get bogged down, but I haven't heard about that on the I-phone.
If it does get bogged down by apps, it's probably preventable. The Blackberry OS multitasks, but it doesn't give you a taskbar like windows, so I didn't realize applications were still running after I pressed the end (red hang up the phone) button. I found "process viewer" app that shows what's running. I imagine there is something similar for the I-phone if it's needed.
From the process viewer I learned to use the menu-close function to get out of heavy apps like maps and weather.

I haven't messed with the media apps much, but google maps and weatherbug are great. I'm sure they're available on the I-phone, too.
Etrade is annoying, because they don't support the Storm model yet, so I have to use the old fashioned cheap cell-phone version. They're advertising a fancy I-phone version.
If you use facebook, their app is pretty good. It hooks into the builtin messaging, so when someone posts to your wall shows up just like an e-mail. It's a good model for a BadWeb app.

Matt, why would a badweb app be needed? This site works flawlessly (and fast) on the iphone using the safari browser. I post and read more than half the time on my Iphone. Only thing I can't do is pics (yet).

No need for a Badweb app on my Windows phone, and I can post pics fine.

Well do tell! If that's the case I can lay on the couch and never have to sit at my 'puter desk ever again.

Hammer - do you just upload to a photo hosting site and then link them in to post them? I haven't played with that yet.

What do you use? I haven't come accross a good way to upload pics to the web outside of facebook from my iphone. I tried looking at my picasa account, but I don't see way to upload from the iphone there.

The first comment about a BadWeb app wasn't meant to be taken seriously. It works fine on the small screen.

Theoretically you could wi-fi skype and have no phone bill.

There is no better item. It is so great, and it is a phone too. I can carry all of my music and over 5,000-10,000 photos around. It is great for my job. I can take a photo and send to anyone at anytime...plus keep the history of the event on the phone too, plus all of the apps. REX

Darn and I can't upgrade for 8 weeks and 5 days (not that I'm counting!). I'm using an 8925 Tilt, HTC's 1/2 ass'd effort to copy the iPhone.

Now that the iPhone has 3G and all the goodies from the 3.0 OS, I'm ready! My Wife wants one too, so we will have dueling iPhones!
