anyone on here ever add some reflective tape or paint to their helmet? I have a matte black helmet and wear a Buell adventure jacket. I thought the jacket would be reflective enough but after having a buddy watch me on the interstate at night he said it wasn't really noticeable. I was wondering if any of you found anything at a local store. I have found some on the internet but honestly would prefer to see it in person and check it out myself. So anybody get some from an auto, home improvement or other type store? Are you pleased with it? |

Not tape. Got a vest around somewhere. The problem with reflective tapes is they're usually pretty thick and not too flexible (meaning they're likely to wrinkle on curved surfaces) |

3M makes a really good reflective tape. I have a matte black helmet also and I put black reflective stickers on the back. You can't really see it there in daylight from 10 feet away, but shines pretty bright white at night. I got it at a motorcycle shop. |

Some product literature for 3M reflective films. Note: thickness is 14-18 mil. 3M link (PDF) - click |

Yeah, I was thinking maybe just a strip along the bottom of the helmet would help. If there was some type of paint or a sheet of reflective material I could make my own design |

Fun with Google: http://www.streetglo.net/reflective.tape/ This sounds like what Ulynut described: http://reflectivelyyours.com/generic141.html |

Lowes and Home Depot would be my first stops - even your local model/hobby shop or bicycle shop. |

I have a can of reflective bead medium that you sprinkle over wet paint to make it reflective. |

Go to www.gearupproject.com I took their survey and requested some stickers and they sent me a sample of silver reflective sticker material, about 3"x5". It's perfect to put on the back of a helmet. That's what I'm going to do with mine. I'm gonna cut it into a cool pattern so it doesn't look out of place. Oh, I forgot to mention the stickers and reflective material was FREE! Truck parts stores have the 3M red/white tape that you see lighting up trucks on the highway. I cut some pieces up for my helmet and side bags. It is expensive, but a little goes a long way. I will try to get a picture up soon. |

The stuff reflects so well it is difficult to get a flash photo without overwhelming flash back. |

I've used these guy's http://www.reflectivedecals.com/ product for helmets. You can get kits with different geometric shapes rather than just a 1 inch or 2 inch strip. Cool thing is it comes in colors including black that look (well, black) in the daytime but are highly reflective at night. The tape is thin enough so you can stretch it slightly to follow the curve of the helmets without wrinkles but durable enough that it stays put. Really stays put! If you try to remove without heating your more likely to peel the paint off the helmet than to get the tape off clean. I've used them a couple times - delivery is usually less than a week (Message edited by midnightrider on July 13, 2009) |

I have some of that 3M black reflective tape. Works great. Unfortunately I won't be home for 4 weeks to get you some. If you are still looking in a month or can wait that long I can give you a piece of it. |

+1 for streetglo products. I use their pinstripe tape on my helmets, and even have some on the (red) S2's saddlebag lids. Sunlight, invisible. Headlights, they really pop.

Anyone know if there is black tape that reflects red or yellow? Seems like it should be possible but I haven't found any yet. You could black out a bike and still be legal with all the reflector requirements (yellow up front and red in the back). |
