My sis is an environmental engineer in Seattle - you willing to relocate? (can't say that there is or isn't anything happening up there but could ask)

Try this link. It is where I work as a Test Pilot. It's a ways from where you are now but....L-3 is a HUGE conglomerate so who knows, maybe you could get your foot in the door then relocate, again....

I think a job search thread would be more productive than the waste of time political threads, but that's just me.

Speedfreaks101- the company I work for is AFS (Army Fleet Support). Largest aviation maintenance contract in the DoD. We do maintenance here at Rucker, Ft. Benning, and Ft Bliss. L3 bought the company shortly after it started up. Good and bad about the deal but it's a great job I have. The stock options we get with L3 are pretty good!

Rocket, then quit wasting your time posting to the political threads. Usually, I avoid things that displease me but that's just me.

I have a better idea. Mind your own business.
Seems to me a thread to help a fellow human out is a a far better use of ones time.
This place get's worse day by day. It's a shame too. A Buell forum turning into a right wing forum. Have fun with it.

>>>I think a job search thread would be more productive

Good luck.

I spent a year out of work and sent over 500 resume's to online job boards. I ended up with two "we'll keep your resume' on file" postcards.

The boards like Monster, The Ladders and so forth are largely bogus. 87% of all employment comes from personal contact.

Most the folks and companies I know post positions on Monster AFTER they have them filled to create a paper EEO trail to substantiate that all races/creeds/colors and sexual orientation COULD have applied for the job.

Just an observation.

Most of the rest of this garble is a waste of my, and others time.

Act as fits your situation.

I think a thread to help people find jobs would be infinitely more productive than most of the masturbatory political threads.
Hell, I might even find a job worth changing to. (My current job is rapidly going down hill)

Your original post was about politics in a non-political thread. What was the point of attempting to link politics to a job search???

You appear to have some anger issues in regards to free speech. I suggest you work on that, seeing as it wont be long before Obama and his fellow Democrats are replaced by those evil Republicans. The pendulum always swings.

Rockets mad because PMSNBC says the economy is booming and this person is having a tough time finding work just like alot of people.

We just need to give the stimulus some time to work folks...well folks in the blue states I mean.

No - I was more referring to Rocket's comments. Not at all sure what he has against Char or why the need to refer to "The Waste of Time on Political Threads"

It just confuses me -

Char had a legit request, jobs aren't always available "on demand" nowadays. Rocket could have maybe made a suggestion that we start a jobs wanted section or something but to refer to a legit request for help as somehow being part of a "political" conspiracy here on Badweb just smells of paranoia.

(sorry Char - there ARE some folks who are actually concerned about their careers and the careers of others)

I've met Char at homecoming, her post here is not out of order... I don't think I could tell you what her political leanings are (nor would I care)

Some folks feel the need to see politics in all things I suppose.

Just because we're paranoid doesn't mean "THEY" are not out to get us.

Best of luck Char - you'll get something going no doubt. Sorry that your thread got dirtied about 10 posts ago.

I think Court missed rockets original post point.

I think rocket meant a thread on this site could be helpful, not an outside source like monster or something, which is what I think court thought based on his response to rocket.

If I still had my car, (got repo'd after I got laid-off in march) I'd put a bumper sticker that says:

"yes...YOU did".

Seriously though,..try unemployment, but please do not forget to donate the additional 25.00 stimulus check to the R.N.C.

You never know where the right piece of information will come from. About 15 years ago when I had just transfered to the Marine Reserves, my Assault Section Leader had been applying all over the midwest for a job as a fire fighter.

A friend of a friend told me that the GBFD was getting ready to publish some openings, I made the call, and he has worked up here in Green Bay ever since. It was only a chance that the hiring rumor was even true, but it you don't give things like that a shot, someone else will, and they will get the job. Sometimes it's just having your application and resume in the right hands at the right time.

So, here is my local rumor that may or may not even be worth checking out. I just heard that Dorner-Stahl based in Luxemburg, WI got a bunch of work and they are going to be extremely busy. They are a big sewer contractor, and might have a use for your skills. I also heard Georgia-Pacific is also hiring locally in Green Bay, but I don't know what positions.

I know it isn't much of a lead, but it's something. 15 years ago, that GBFD lead didn't sound like much, but my old Section Leader will probably retire from that job.

Good luck.

Charlotte; I have a friend in the Los Angeles area who is a Registered Geologist with the State of California; and he works mostly in ground water remediation. I don't know if you're willing to relocate that far, or even if he knows of any job openings. However, I've been told that networking is the best way to find a job. If you're interested, let me know and I'll call him and give him your contact info.

Regarding Monster, I have gotten some contacts from it. Regarding Theladders, it seems to be a fee setup to have any resume circulation, so not for me. A lot of my effort has been targeting the companies' Careers pages that do what I have done as a career. The EEO padding could be right, but I feel you gotta try anyway.

I appreciate the constructive help here. Getting a good job is pretty random these days so I figure it was worth a shot.

I got my last job from Monster... so you just never know.

As far as thread hijacking... it happened last time I posted for some support. It really pissed me off, but Slaughter took care of it for me... People need to keep inflamatory comments to themselves. Life is hard enough without it.

I've generally got jobs by knocking on doors or through word of mouth.

A BadWeB section for Career Networking?

Maybe something like the B.R.A.N. you can only see it if you're logged in?

That's doable.

I'll see what I can come up with.

Personally having been out of full time employment for quite some time, I think it could be very useful.

Sorry to hear of your needing employment Charlotte.
I'm hoping the best for you, us, everyone that finds themselves in our situation.
