Today was kinda unnerving to say the least. I managed in just 500 miles. To encounter four serious accidents. The first was less than 100 miles from the house. This one had me stopped and sitting for close to an hour. Not much left of the mini van that rolled. Or the other car that took the brunt of a hit head on. The ambulance was in no hurry as it was leaving. It just sucked! I managed to put that one behind me for the next hour. Again I happened upon another. This one also looked bad. Those involved faired much better. I put this one behind me until.... Number three, just north of I44 on 5 in Missouri. This one turned my stomach. Another mini van(I think). The complete utter carnage. Hate to say it, the responding EMTs were gonna be of little use. Of the four victims, I could see. Only one was being worked on. This is the one time they should have shut the road down! I finally put this one behind me. So I am plugging along. Getting close to my destination. Guess what happens. I happen across a head-on on the frontage road along the highway. I can understand once. Twice is kinda freakish. Three times is just *&%#in insane. But four times. In one day. In less than 600 miles of road. I just wanted to pull over, park, toss the keys and start walking back home. My thoughts, prayers and all the good karma I can muster go out those people involved in the above. Got to send some out to those who witnessed all this first hand also. I hope my drive home on Sunday morning is far less eventful. I really don't need a repeat of today. | ||

I travel hwy 5 from Lebanon to Camdenton every time I visit family in MO - usually on the bike. That 23 mile stretch of road scares me every time. Trees blocking your downroad visibility, gravel/dirt dragged onto the road surface, and all of the semis that use it to get from hwy 54 to I-44.. not a very relaxing experience. | ||

Coming back from Georgia on 95 last April I did a 600 mile day that day and I saw 1 roll over crash the dust from the roll over was still in the air and people were slowing down. Further up the road I see a young lady hauling a U-haul trailer with her car. I was several car lengths back and cars were between us. She changes the lane at speed and the trailer starts to swerve back and forth in the lane. Everybody slows down but are really close to her. The trailer starts swerving more and the car starts to swerve as well. I thought I was going to be on the end of a multiple car crash. It looked like the girl had no control anymore. Finally she scrubs off enough speed before the trailer flips. Scared the crap out of me. Now I stay wide of the personal U-hauls on the road. | ||

On my trip to SF, CA last week, down Hwy. 80, I came upon two cars overturned on the other side of the freeway. There were people walking around all over the 8 lane Hwy, talking on cell phones, traffic was stopped (I snuck through lane-sharing). I didn't see any carnage, but the cars were both complete pancakes. Ten miles further down the road, I passed the ambulances going to the crash site. I'm sure a Medivac Helicopter landed on the freeway as well. When I got to my sister's bar, I told her what I had seen, and she said that she has seen that similar scene on every trip to the City. Sucks to see. You want to stop right there and help, but you know it's just out of your league. People in cars are so isolated from the driving environment, that there is no time to control inevitable events. I've come to believe that people are driving out of control all of the time. After 20+ years of road-riding, this is why I've come to practice "aggressive" riding techniques to avoid the zombie-cagers. I figure the occasional citation, is the lowest cost solution for riding safety. | ||

I've come to believe that people are driving out of control all of the time. They are and I never believe any different for even a second. When I am on the road, I am Indiana Jones and they are the poison darts. | ||

Also, I firmly believe that a sport bike like my 12R with just enough power to dominate traffic, yet not too much to get in trouble too quickly, combined with its relatively light weight, exceptional handling and breaking is the safest form of motorcycling out there. (If you can keep your mind focused while riding.) | ||

Loki, its days like those that make you want to call your loved ones and just say hi. Crazy &*^%$ happens out there on the road and too many times the innocent are the ones getting whacked. Ride safe. | ||
