Its non-buell, but I figure yall would like to see some of my motorcycle related work.

My newest AMA/Guard video. Check it out on youtube in full HD. Its a teaser that will be showing @ the rest of the races.

No Rick Rolls this time.

I did sneak a Buell into the video, a James Gang 1125R

Professional question:

I have always wondered, how do you get that "look" to the video?
Top Gear has the same look. It is almost like the colors are suppressed. Very stylish.

Long story short.

I shoot everything slow-mo.

I use expensive professional lens that give me depth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_of_field

I jack with the colors.

In the biz we call it Color Grading, and its an art form. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_grading

You have to know where you want to go and how to get there. What you see in most of my videos are multiple layers and passes of color grading and the use of mattes and masks of the image to get the look I like. Its all done in a computer. My preferred weapon is Final Cut Pro, but it can be done with cheaper/free video tools.

I have my own way of doing that I have developed over the years. Once I get a chance I will post what it looks like before I stylize it.

I try to shoot it straight and then I mess with it later. I don't do much to during the acquisition process.

When my patrons let me do my own thing, I have a very dark/unsaturated style and I tend to tint with colors. I usually have what I call an overture tint or color to my vids.

Top Gear has been one of my inspirations.

Next question:

Since we are both on the Top Gear theme, I have a lens question.

What is the lens that zooms in yet keeps the center subject looking the same? That is maybe not the best description.

Top Gear uses them frequently when a car is racing down the runway toward the camera, you see the car in the distance, and the surrounding area. Then then field of view shifts and you still see the car, yet the surrounding area is gone.

Does any of this make sense?

That is a good example of a Dolly zoom technique. AKA "Contrazoom" or "Hitchcock zoom" made famous with the movie vertigo.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_zoom

weak example, but good "how to" demo

Got any examples where you've been allowed free reign (motorcycles or otherwise)?

Now that's impressive.

I take it your do your rendering on a Mac Pro? What kind of final cut render times are we looking at?

Render time, hmmmm. Depends on what you are doing.

On my AMA video, most of my work was in realtime.

I have a 8 core Mac Pro.

We did finish a music video last week. It took 7 differnet 8 core mac pros networked together a half day to process the 2:30 minute music video.

When you see the video you will understand. Stay tuned.

We bought the first 8 core mac pro (early 2007?). At the time it was a special order.

By the time we were done adding goodies to it, it cost more than my bike : ( that was without any monitors.

Funny thing is the dual quad core xeon 3.0ghz are still considered top end today, over 2 years later...

"We did finish a music video last week."
Watching the AMA/Guard video had me thinking about a music video with dark effects and close up details. Looking forward to seeing what you've done.
