Is there anyone who lives close by and give me a quick tour of the 318 turns? I should be there around 7 PM. |

Traffic will be lighter at 7pm, but if you're gonna be there for the weekend - enjoy Dragon parade duty. What that means is you'll be trapped in the middle of a long line of cars and Harleys all doing 30 mph and still showing how sloppy they are. I'm trying to be nice about it. |

I'm only passing threw and never rode the dragon and would like to follow someone who has...I think I would have a better ride that way. I'm currently in Hot Spring, AR visiting family...I trailered the bike down south. If anyone is up for a ride on the dragons tail please let me know by Saturday. |

Not to be a spoilsport, but it looks like a strong chance of heavy rain up there for Sunday. Otherwise, I would definitely be there. |

I noticed your profile says "ride within YOUR LIMITS". That's good. Do exactly that. I would come meet up with you but I don't do weekends especially during the summer months. Early spring or late fall maybe, but the 4th of July is a madhouse. The Dragon is simple, there are only two ways to go, north or south, no tour necessary. If someone comes up behind you, just move a little to the right and motion them by. TDOT has been there paving the pulloffs. I wish I could tell you more. Oh yeah, the burgers at the Dragon's Den are the best. |

Actually, if it rains on Sunday, FWIW that may be the ideal circumstance to do the Gap. You will be forced to go slow, a whole lot less people will be there (well, hopefully no meats in sportscars trying to drift anyway), for the most part you should have the road to yourself. As long as your preparations for rain, your tires and your raingear are good. +1 what Vince said. +1, the Cherohala is a more enjoyable ride, but watch your speed and don't rubberneck- there are a couple of decreasing radius turns out there. Check out 68 out of Tellico Plains- if you're good with maps or have GPS, go find Reliance TN. Be careful, keep the rubber side down. (Message edited by 86129squids on July 03, 2009) |

You've really seen a cruiser hit 30mph there? I was thinking more like 10-15mph based on past couple years experience... |

Chaces are if I do stop and do not have someone to follow I will still have a good time and I will put money down on it, that there will be more who wave me past than me waving them on. If I do miss it, I'm still pretty happy my brother showed me some real nice rides here around Hot Springs. So I got some real nice riding in however the roads around here around Hot Springs are a little more abrasive on the tires than in NY. I do not think my corsa III's are going to make 5000 miles. |

Thanks for all the info. I will check back before Saturday evening...To see if someone will be there. I will also have a better idea when I will be there and I will do the south to north route since that is the direction I will need to continue to get home. Hopefully the rain stays away and since I will be there just around 7 PM maybe it will not be so packed. But if it raining I will not stopped. Like I said before I trailered the bike and do not have my rain gear with me. If it fails I will be back down next year. I will have July and August off next year. GE is going to shut down 2 months instead of 2 weeks to avoid any long layoffs. It's going to be nice getting paid for having the summer off. I will get unemployment plus a supplement from GE. Looks like some major riding for me next summer I might even hit Sturgis. |

That sounds like next summer is going to be the ticket for you! I have family coming in today for the night. I don't know if I can get down there Sunday, but I sure would like to. Did you say you have been hanging around Hot Springs? Is that like in NC not too far North of Asheville? There is some great riding in that area. You will be totin' your bike on the trailer heading home right? So the plan is to get to the Dragon, unload, ride it both ways, then load up and head out? |
