If you are looking for a Used Schuberth concept helmet check out the BMW rider sites, a lot of those guys have bought them and now have them for sale because they are tooo nosey. A lot of the BMW riders have gone back to the Shoei helmet for a quiet ride. I tried a Schuberth and the left side had a real air leak and I always thought a car had snuck up beside me.

Bill...Your problem with the sun shield is not one that I have noticed while riding an S3T, R11RT and now ST1300...I will pay more attention next time out and see if I can detect this issue...Of course, if I do, I will eternally blame you for calling this to my attention...

I actually called Snell and spoke with the director when I purchased my first flip-up, the Duotec and he told me that they would probably never be able to certify a flip-up...This is due to their concern of the locking mechanism for the flip-up feature failing in a crash...I suggested that they test for this failure...Of course, this was before I actually tested in and it did not fail, thank god...Probably the heavier weight due to the steel construction is a good thing...

See Ya!

A more upright position might make it less of a problem... not really sure. Don't blame me if you now notice : )

Basically, it looks like you are looking through a "smile", and I think it would work better if you were looking through a straight line, or even a frown.

And I only use the darkened visor as a shade... I don't try to flip it all the way down and look through it. The bright to dark line and the artifacts of two layers of lexan drive me nuts. But I am fussy about that kind of stuff, it might not bother most people. And if you were flipping the tinted part all the way down, the "light leaks at corners of the smile" would probably be a lot less of an issue.

One more really cool feature the helmet has is that the whole clear shield can be "popped" out 1/8th of an inch or so, which does a great job of keeping it from fogging, or to avoid overheating when stopped. When back under way, just give yourself a good pop between the eyes, and it snaps back flush, quiet, and more airtight. Its a well done helmet.

Tried it on the way home. The more upright you get, the less the "looking through a smile" factor comes into play.

So for an S3? no problem. M2 or xbs? Not bad. xbr? Probably an issue.

I'm looking for a good helmet around $250. Is there any reconmondations at that price range? I know have an HJC full face but it needs replaced. It seemed to be an ok helmet but Until last year I didn't wear one much so any help would be cool!

MCN UK extensively tested loads of helmets in 2002. They took selected helmets and put then through extremely demanding tests to simulate loadings higher than might be expected if the wearer of said helmet were ever to test out its abilities.

What was interesting was in lots of instances the cheaper plastic type helmets and expensive composite helmets offered similar amounts of protection when it came to the crunch <grin>.

They also concluded that a good fitting £100 helmet was safer than a £400 poor fitting helmet, something they repeated in last weeks MCN.

all the research I've seen echoes that cited by Rocket . . . . . when racing, I used to ewear the best (read, most expensive) helmet I could afford . . . .that was a while ago, but now I'm more concerned with venting and fit . . . .. as Rocker sez, a cheap well fitting helmet is better than an expensive, poorly fitting one . .. .

that doesn't mean, of course, that an expensive, well-fitting helmet doesn't offer a high degree of protection, but it's likely small differneces rather than large ones

I buy a more expensive helmet for the superior anti-scratch faceshield a superior faceshield mechanism (no extra pieces, easy to remove shield, no tools required) and for features like removable liners and quiteness. They all seem to use the same styrofoam protective shell.

A poor fitting helmet is a great way to get a concussion (or worse). I like the more expensive ones for feel/comfort, airflow and noise level.

You can buy a Nolan for about $120 that offers all of that except for the removable liner.

You are being argumentative today aint ya?

Hate to tell you this, but I have a Nolan I bought brand new that has the anti-scratch faceshield which also removes with no tools in about 5 seconds & is quiet.

Only thing it doesnt have is the removable liner.

I own a KBC helmet and it was just around the 250 mark. I really cant complain about it. Its snell and dot also has a removable liner and has a visor that requires no tools too remove. Although this is the first helmet I've owned so I really don't have much too compare it too.

Rocket, I have 4 Nolan helmets. 2 are a bit older models & are the N35 model. The 2 newer ones are both N60's & I think I bought em about 2 1/2 years ago or so.

I love the Nolans, well built, comfy, great selection of cheap face shields..I have both smoked & mirrored...super fast tool less shield removal.

Some folks will dismiss them because they dont have the high price of a Shoei or similar helmet, but dollar for dollar I believe Nolans to be about the best out there. Plus the newer ones have some pretty cool graphics that dont cost anymore than the plain helmets do.

I don't believe the Esprit BMA is available here but the pic of the lid you posted looks to be the same lid as the Shark 500 Air Fusion, also available as a Nieto and Corser Replica.
