I believe the total buildings destroyed or made uninhabitable was 9 or 10. World Trade center 1 thru 7, 130 Liberty st. (Deutsche Bank building),and I think a college campus satellite building in the area. 1 World Financial across the street along with a church and some smaller properties took on substantial damage also but were salvageable.

I'm sorry, I was looking at the question as a New york only one. Meant no disrespect in neglecting to mention the Pentagon.

Yes, World Trade Center #7 was the third building in New York City to collapse. It collapsed that evening.

I hope we won't be disgracing the 9/11 victims with another conspiracy theory rant.

due to fire damage. once they realized there were no survivors in the building anymore they let it free burn as there were bigger issues. the heat caused the collapse much in teh same way the towers did

I would imagine that having a very large building fall on a smaller building would not be good for the general health of the smaller building.

List of damage from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks

quote:

In addition to the 110-floor Twin Towers of the World Trade Center itself, numerous other buildings at the World Trade Center site were destroyed or badly damaged, including 7 World Trade Center, 6 World Trade Center, 5 World Trade Center, 4 World Trade Center, the Marriott World Trade Center (3 WTC), and the World Financial Center complex and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.[59]

The Pentagon damaged by fire and partly collapsed.

The Deutsche Bank Building across Liberty Street from the World Trade Center complex was later condemned due to the uninhabitable, toxic conditions inside the office tower, and is undergoing deconstruction.[60][61] The Borough of Manhattan Community College's Fiterman Hall at 30 West Broadway was also condemned due to extensive damage in the attacks, and is slated for deconstruction.[62] Other neighboring buildings including 90 West Street and the Verizon Building suffered major damage, but have since been restored.[63] World Financial Center buildings, One Liberty Plaza, the Millenium Hilton, and 90 Church Street had moderate damage.[64] Communications equipment atop the North Tower, including broadcast radio, television and two-way radio antenna towers were also destroyed, but media stations were quickly able to reroute signals and resume broadcasts.[59][65] In Arlington County, a portion of the Pentagon was severely damaged by fire and one section of the building collapsed.[66]

The Deutsche Bank Building would claim 2 lives itself 6 years later (Firefighters) due to crooked contracting and lax vigilance on part of the FDNY. A tragedy that has changed the fire protection standards in NYC more than any event since the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire.
