I have a 99 sho (super high output) we use as a daily driver.
They came with a Yamaha sourced 32 valve v8 and upgraded suspension and brakes, ect..
By far the most fun and reliable car I have ever owned. Still in near mint condition even with the wife driving it. Total sleeper package. It can surprise a lot of European car drivers. Ford is bringing it back for
2010 with 365 hp and all wheel drive. Can’t wait to see it.

I am a huge SHO fan and got invited to see the new one 2 weeks ago and had to miss the event.

I am super excited about it.

I've had 3 SHO's.

my dad had one as a company car back in the 90's... we used to race the local highschool kids in their mustangs, the look on their face was priceless.

I almost bought one of the early ones (24V V-6, 5 speed) in the late 80's. They wanted to move this car BADLY. Dealer told me to take it home for the weekend. I remember from a rolling start in 1st gear at 10 MPH, I stomped it and it LIT the front tires!

I really couldn't afford the car at the time, but man I wanted it. Took it back and drove home in my lame 87 standard Taurus on Monday.

I had a black 1989 SHO. Went through 4 clutches until they finally got it sorted out. That car would FLY. When the intake snapped over to the short runners, it was like 2 more cylinders kicked in.
I didn't like the wipers flopping off the glass in a good cross wind.
I got 37 mpg once crossing Texas at a steady 75 mph.

I've seen pics of the new one in Motor Trend. It's a good looking car for sure.

The new one is AWD. That should get the power to the ground!

That Yamaha engine was a MONSTER! In the new SHO, are they going back to a Yamaha engine?

Jalopnik seemed disappointed with the new SHO's performance.

1) Glad to see I’m not alone as a sho fan. It’s kind of like being a Buell fan. If I want to talk about Harleys or Mustangs it’s not hard to find someone. But it seems like most people I personally know don’t know much (if anything) about sho’s or buell’s.

2) I couldn’t find anything on Yamaha involvement on the new engine, but I don’t know for sure

3)I saw that review from Jalopnik. I have to write that off as the worst review (most anti brand bias) I’ve ever read on anything ever. They complained that it didn’t chirp the front tires? Did they ever here of traction control? Don’t they know it has all wheel drive? It did 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and they knocked it’s Acceleration. It has 350 ft lbs of torque from 1500 rpm until redline on they knock the engine. What praise they did offer was very back handed. I need a break. I’ve read other reviews that had nothing but praise. Again not all that un-different from Buell.

I've had some correspondence with Ford and some names I've not heard for a while from the old SHO Club.

For one of the more comprehensive write ups check THIS out.

Looks like it will be an amazing car. . . this car will do much more for American automakers (something you REALLY want to buy) than any amount of corporate welfare.

By the way . . . even with new technology . . don't run it into anything.

: )

LOVE SHO's. All true Ford performance fans gotta know about the Taurus SHO and the SVT Contour. I was looking at the V6 AWD Fusion as daily driver when I swap the Kugel Komponents v8 kit or F2 built block and Focussport Stage 2 turbo into my ZX3. Those Taurus' haul butt. Ford put out the SVT Raptor coming out, is SVT back from the dead? They need more turbo/awd combos if they're gonna compete with the import crowd. Ford please bring back the Taurus SHO and for Christ's sakes bring the Focus RS over!

I always liked the sleeper SHO's. I thought the engine was sourced from Kawi. Same difference right? J/K.

From ford:

"The 3.5L EcoBoost™ is the first North American production twin-turbocharged direct-injection V6 engine. And Taurus SHO is the first and only vehicle in its class* to feature the EcoBoost engine. This engine provides better fuel economy** and fewer emissions than a V8. EcoBoost combines two different technologies – turbocharging and direct injection – to deliver the performance of a much larger engine with the fuel economy of a smaller engine.** It churns out 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque across a wide 1,500 – 5,000 rpm range. And it does all that with an estimated 17 city/25 highway fuel economy.** Compared to a naturally aspirated engine, the 3.5L EcoBoost twin turbocharged direct injection V6 engine provides higher performance, better fuel economy** and fewer CO2 emissions: • Improved transient response enabled by the direct injector reduces “turbo lag,” overcoming the traditional disadvantage of downsizing and boosting • More efficient fuel consumption is the result of a high compression ratio enabled by direct injection, which provides air charged cooling *Class is five-passenger Large Car. **EPA-estimated 17 city/25 hwy (AWD)."

DANG BRO!

That sounds like someone has been working hard in the powertrain dept. over @ ford.

This might be a good "Family" car for the Barkers.

I do believe the engine will be manufactured at Fords Brook Park engine plant out by Cleveland Hopkins airport.

The new Taurus SHO uses a ford motor. Ford finally got its head out of its ass and realized not everyone wants a 2 door pony car.

Unfortunately the new Taurus is almost the size of a Crown Vic.

I am waiting for the Fusion SHO. The Fusion is close to the size of the original Taurus.

The new Fusions are frikkin' SHARP. If I didn't already have a Mustang GT, it'd be a VERY strong contender for my monthly payments.

Not a big fan of Tauri. I had to use one while my car was in the shop, and my wife's workplace uses them as company cars, and they're all very vanilla. But of course those aren't SHOs!
