from the article....Hummers were originally built as military off-road vehicles by a company called AM General.

GM bought the Hummer brand in 1999. Its sales have suffered as the gas-guzzling performance and military image have become less popular.

That is a misleading statement. GM bought the rights to use the Hummer name. Am General still produces the military HUMVEE and is not being sold to the Chinese. The GM Hummers are built on truck frames and have nothing in common with the military Humvee, except for the name.

From AM General's web site : General Motors does not own any part of AM General. In December 1999, AM General and General Motors Corporation finalized an agreement to jointly pursue product, marketing and distribution opportunities for HUMMERŪ. Under the final agreement, GM acquired the exclusive ownership of the HUMMER brand name worldwide and the original civilian HUMMER was renamed the HUMMER H1. Since 2002, AM General has produced the HUMMER H2 as a contract assembler for GM. GM has responsibility for marketing and distributing all HUMMERs.

I hope it doesn't happen. Can't blame them though. They are probably paying less then it would cost to design and tool from scratch, and throw in brand recognition and a dealer network. Plus they are a good design. I have to wonder if they will have the right to make the frames themselves, as they are GM's best current design also shared with Chevy and GM trucks. Would GM give up propriety rights to their best selling chassis?

i will tell you something nobody else knows but the people that work there..

that plant was designed to be interchangeable. They could run H2, then Taxi, then Toyota in that order if they wanted to, all in the same day.. so there is no damn reason this shit id happenin.. 500,000 sq ft, would make a good Buell plant... wink. wink....
