Some friends and I are leaving Richmond,ky just south of Lexington going to Two Wheels Only motorcycle resort, we are passng through the Gap and the Charaholla Skyway on the way down. On the return home we may take the same route unless you guys can give me another way that would be good to take on back to Richmond. Any suggestions?

Get on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Cherokee, go to Boone NC, get on 421 -the Snake- through Bristol to 58, go East from there.

This is a cool piece of riding. I'm going there today or tomorrow with my son.

Can't argue with Vern's route.
The Snake is an awesome ride.
While you're at TWO, don't miss these roads
The Snake in the above link isn't the same Snake Vern was talking about...

Hey Craig, how far out of your way are you willing to go? If you can come up on the eastern side of Ky. and hit Black Mtn. then to Whitesburg, Campton and the MT. Park Way that will put you heading back to Richmond. I just got my bike running again and am looking forward to that day trip. I haven't forgotten about you, I'll send an e-mail when we go.

There's a great set of roads that youn's can pick up out of Tellico Plains instead of just running south on 68 (although there's nothing wrong with that). They will take you to/through Reliance, TN and then alongside the Ocoee river, then eventually back to TN 68 in Ducktown. Then you can roll on down 68TN/60GA to Suches.

I'd not memorized the number sequence, but the route is detailed in a piece published a couple of months ago in Handlebars magazine. What I'm talking about is reversing direction from what is written. Go check out www.fromthehandlebars.com and youn's will see. This is my new favorite route for twisties, little chance to see po po or squids, but look out for livestock and critters.

We did the Snake yesterday. Awesome ride! It was the first time I did it from South to North.

We got to the Shady Valley store just as the owner had pulled out of the driveway after closing.....crap.....no sticker this time Mark!

Rt 321 is a really decent ride if you don't mind passing through some towns. We got on that in Newport Tn. Had to slab it back from Bristol on 81 because of the late hour. A great ride with my eldest son who is here on his vacation.
