"Those who are law-abiding citizens, they don't have anything to worry about."

Isn't this the phrase that had folks up in arms about surveiling phone calls from US locations to locations in known terror states and calls from known terror states into the US.

I guess since there is no governmental agency directly involved, it's ok.

For the most part, I'm a law abiding citizen, but if my town was riddled with cameras I'd be out with a can of spray paint. I don't like the idea of some self righteous ass watching what everyone is doing.

For people who want to see everyone and everything why don't we get to see the faces of these cowards ? A real American would be smacking these chicken-bitches and telling them to go home and change their plug !

I do not relish the thought of leaving my kids behind [if I can't talk them into joining me],
but more and more, retiring on a remote third world island is becoming an attractive idea.

You know; Lancaster H-D/Buell is a pretty decent shop. My S3-T made 84 HP and 75Lbs-Ft. of torque on their dyno during the ATC Road Apple rally back in 1999.

If you met me in person you'd think I was a very upright, law-abiding, straightlaced kinda guy. However:
For the most part, I'm a law abiding citizen, but if my town was riddled with cameras I'd be out with a can of spray paint. I don't like the idea of some self righteous ass watching what everyone is doing.
X2. Damn right!

I don't usually talk about what I do for a living. 4th Amendment and privacy concerns are a big part of my job. Think very large federal agency. And yet deep down is an anarchist streak that just gets pissed about this camera crap. Remember, the first rule of project mayhem is... oh nevermind.

Vampires don't photograph, silly! You'd need a reflection in order to be photographed, and they don't have any.

It's not what you see... it's what you DON'T see that'll drag you into an alley and drain your blood.

But they will have PLENTY of time to be alerted to the shambling army of ravenous zombies making their way to the area...

I, on two separate occasions, have been treated to rather amazing examples of how phone calls, e-mails and photo recognition are used.

I've had my house visited twice by nice folks with guns, an 8"x10" of my drivers license photo and a pretty comprehensive summary of what I had done the prior 50 days.

It's the result of carrying a rather large camera for my work and having a bad habit of taking pictures of things that, in their mind, should never be photographed. . . like the Brooklyn Bridge.

I'm glad they are doing their job.

I am distressed it took them months, as opposed to days, to figure out I was boring, not threatening.

But it is really scary.

If you think your e-mails, texts and cell phone are private you are living in a dream world.

Cameras? Privacy? Vampires? Amish Vampires with cameras invading your privacy?

Let the Zombies come I say.....

Very true Court. However there are a huge number of controls on who gets to see what. There is much more involved then just 'that guys suspicious lets read his text'. Its a battle most times justifying to a judge why somebody's privacy needs to be violated. Also the phone and internet providers actively fight law enforcement when it comes to information sharing. Once again I'm speaking of a hypothetical government agency.

I am distressed it took them months, as opposed to days, to figure out I was boring, not threatening. I'm sure a fair amount of work was involved. Sucks but its very time consuming. The only option is get rid of that pesky 4th amendment.

I still hate all the cameras. We just put up new tag readers in Chattanooga. They don't have video but automatically read every vehicle tag that pulls into a location and checks it against a hit-list. Very quick, very effective, very sneaky, and also very prone to future abuse IMO.

Mortarmanmike's modern vampire detector works using a dual camera system. One camera operates in the visible light spectrum the other is thermal. Vampires do not reflect light but they still provide a thermal signature by displacing air. The difference in thermal displacement of vampires as compared to humans is much smaller but modern thermal imagers are capable of detecting these fluctuations. Onboard software constantly compares images captured with the thermal camera with those thru the conventional lens. If a case arises where there is a thermal signature and no corresponding visual signature the software triggers the alarm. This alarm is sent via aircard to a url of the users choice. 48 hour runtime with onboard lithium batteries. AC adaptors, replacement batteries, memory cards and monitoring software cost extra.

They got the same thing on several police cars near me. I am just glad the machine can't figure out that the plate on my 03 Blast really belongs on a 06 Lightning. : )

Yeah the car based systems used to be very expensive. Not sure about the fixed cameras. I know where they put them up was because of 'high volume' but I think there may be some social profiling going on in the choice of location. Just speculation on my part. Hell the plate readers can't even distinguish which state. There are supposedly hits all the time for hot tags that just turn out to be out of state cars. I have no problem with them in their current use, it's only the potential abuse that makes me uneasy.
