So when does the new reality show start? The one about the poor working woman whose man left her with 1 or 2 rugrats, plus being knocked up to boot, and how she gets by in her daily life?

The only reality shows I dig are cooking shows and Trump's Celebrity Apprentice. It's entertaining to watch entertainers jackass themselves for The Donald.
Can't help but watch and get riled up watching Chef Ramsey and Hell's Kitchen...

Yep City, I killed my TV years ago. Probably one of the smartest things I've ever done. The only reason I have cable is for internet. Of course it's arguable whether my increased computer time compensates for me not having a TV.
The funny thing is I don't have a TV and still know all about the BS comin' out of the media.
Spike I'm gonna disagree with you a little bit. I understand given their situation why they would need the money from their TV show. But damn, 8 kids. It's all about what they want. They want kids. They get 2. Not satisfied with 2 they want more. They get 6! Oops, I'm sorry. Am I supposed to empathize with them because they played roulette with her uterus and won more then they'd wanted?
I guess that means it's possible that my wife and I are also idiots who shouldn't breed.

You have a right to breed a whole football team if you want to.
Others have the right to think you're idiots for doing so.
I personally don't think your an idiot but my opinion doesn't count as my family tree ends with me. |

You'll have to pick which side you're on because you just contradicted yourself. Either someone is an idiot for wanting more kids, or they are not. If they're idiots for having more kids than they wanted, they're idiots for not being God. What if my wife and I wanted one more child and ended up with twins? |

The problem with "reality shows" like J&K+8 is that after a while they forget how to operate like a normal human being without a camera.
Look at that show Bridezillas. Do you REALLY think those people would be THAT over the top without the cameras? |

Writing is good from he point of view that you can be an entertainer without being a celebrity.
Personally I watch a lot of sport, some English comedy and a few old movies - and filter out the advertising - and that is it for broadcast.
I watch a lot of old television on You Tube too.
I just prefer the entertainment values from the 70s & 80s and there is now a vast amount of it available I haven't seen before.
Comedy Channel has just started here too. What a remarkably un-funny collection of dribble - dotted with some excellent bits - the best of Saturday Night Live is killer - but overall it's re-runs of shows that you can't go back to until 10.30 when it turns into badly done soft core porn.
A tubing I will go, a tubing I will go, hi-ho the bandwidths blown a.......

I wasn't calling anybody an idiot. Personally I just view it as bad judgement. If others have the opinion you're an idiot, oh well. They are entitled to their opinion. Don't be so concerned with other peoples opinion.
What if my wife and I wanted one more child and ended up with twins?I'd say congratulation and wish you the best.
But if you ended up having septuplets instead, I'd still say congratulations and good luck. But I wouldn't have much sympathy and I wouldn't watch your reality show. Such are the chances you take.

The contradiction wasn't in allowing others the right to call each other idiots, the contradiction was in disagreeing with Jon and Kate not being idiots because they wanted more kids and ended up with more kids than they wanted, and then turning around and saying that no one would say that I am an idiot.
I'm not particularly concerned with whether or not someone thinks I'm an idiot. The point was not to bear some personal insult. The point was that I'm not fundamentally different than Jon and Kate. If wanting kids, having kids, being unable to control the specific number of kids, or being willing to show up on camera makes one an idiot, then I would qualify for that title. I wanted to point out how broad of a brush some here are painting with.
Also, I don't see where Jon and Kate or anyone in this thread has implied that we should be watching the show out of sympathy. That would be like saying we should watch "Deadliest Catch" because we feel bad for the fishermen who are cold and wet, or watch "Little People Big World" because we feel bad for people with dwarfism. |

No- but I find it questionable to spend mega-$$$ at a fertility clinic when adoption is a viable option. In some cases (Octomom TM in particular) I find fertility clinics as reprehensible as abortion clinics. We should find ways to avoid going to either one of these places, but I understand the need for both.
Disclaimer: I have no kids, don't plan on having any. I don't intend to insult those who have struggled with having kids of their own, and I do understand the urge to have kids of your own blood.

Spike, I'm sorry. I no longer feel the urge to backtrack conversations on a thread that has no bearing on my life. It's not worth the effort. Sorry. If I contradicted myself I'll take your word for it. People (myself included) are gonna judge other people's reproductive decisions. Good or bad, it doesn't matter. Do what ya gotta do and don't worry about who thinks whos an idiot. It doesn't matter in the end anyway. It's late, I'm tired and squid pretty much mirrors my views exactly.

i will trow more fuel to the fire.
how about fertility treatment weakening the gene pool for my children and grand children to reproduce with.
i agree with fertility treatment for events that happened post birth, but for genetic conditions, no. |
