Did anyone watch the white house special NBC had on last night.
I found it fascinating to get a look around the facilities, how small some of the west wing offices are.

The candy consumption. (I still have a box of M&M's I got from Air Force One )

What really got me was the ride in the "Beast" (limo). First I was surprised they got access. Second was how loud it was.

I figured for being a custom built tank, it would be solid and quiet.
Not a giant rattle trap.

If you didn't see it, msnbc has a longer video of the ride

I know the Beast is supposed to be based off a GM diesel "Top Kick" truck platform, it just seemed like they skimped in the refinement area.

The White House isn't large, compared to some homes today but when it was built in the 1700's it was quite large. In comparison, I've seen garages larger than George Washington's Mount Vernon.

I have taken a tour of the White House to include the West Wing (with some wounded men/families from Walter Reed).

Put my head in the Oval Office - Secret Service will not let you put a foot in there - They were standing right by the door. My wife asked a question about the flower embroidered into the oval office rug - the guy giving the tour did not know the answer - neither did the Secret Service guy standing at the door - 30 seconds later SS guy gave us the answer - even though I did not notice him cueing his microphone to talk to anybody. Obviously we were on Camera/Mic. There was a also a Secret Service guy/gal with every group - they blended in and I was unaware that they were not part of the tour, until I graciously tried to let this gal go in front of me - Said she was not allowed...

West Wing is very small. Hard to believe it is the epicenter of the US Government. Other then the Oval Office - cheaply furnished. 1 good sized conference room. - Felt like about 1500 square feet total. There was a basement - did not go down there.

Tour was given by interns - ours was interning to Andrew Card. He had dropped out of college to do his internship. We broke into groups of about 5. He hugged my wife when we left. Think it was because of all the physical trauma that he saw on the wounded soldiers and Marines.

George was not in - off to Japan or somewhere. His dogs were there. Played with Barney and Miss Beasly - thought Barney was going to bite me when I tried to take his toy from him - would have been a good story if he had.

I did George Washington's HQ . . just a few miles from here in New Jersey. The White House has a great lawn though.

: )

I think you can thank the Clintons for that. All the good stuff got loaded onto the moving van.

I was surprised to see in the video link above that not once, but twice, the Presidential Limo stopped on the road, presumably at a traffic light/stop sign. I didn't think it stopped for anything.

I would definitely get that rattle fixed, that was annoying...
