I was taking a clover leaf type exit at a pretty aggressive lean. The freeway speed limit is 65 mph and I was exiting close to that. As I was 3/4 way through the corner I saw a state trooper sitting on the entrance stareing at me. He didnt come after me and I got to thinking. Was it illegal and if so what kind of ticket would that be? | ||

They usually post speed limits on exit ramps. they are usually something stupid like 25MPH. That would be my guess that they would shaft you like that. | ||

Those signs are usually in yellow though, meaning "suggested", "recommended", or "safe" speed. I have often wondered the same thing, interested to hear from the LEO's on here. | ||

It's going to be a judgement call. If you look like you're all over the road struggling to control the bike you could be ticketed for speed unsafe for conditions. On the other hand, if you're smooth and in control, and NOT exceeding the actual (not suggested) speed limit, he'll let you go. Unless, of course, his wife has had a headache for two weeks, his Captain is an ass, and his mistress is forcing him to choose between her and his wife... | ||

I've been pulled over for that... multiple times actualy. cops in texas like to hide on of/on ramps these days both cops said that the yellow speed limit sign at the beginning of the off ramp is a 'suggested, safe' speed, and you CAN'T be ticketed agenst that speed. If you are not exceding the highways speed limit and slow down to the access road's speed limit by the time you are off the ramp... then you are all good. but then again, there are some DB cops out there (every department ATLEAST has one). I have a few exits that are the best for throwin it over. In fact I have used them over and over to uhh, break in the new tires. We have some very good roads here it just seems the exits are clean and usually pothole free. I'll test it out and get back to ya'll. Hehe | ||

Here in MD, the state LEOs have started hanging out on offramps for seat belt tickets... The only thing I'm aware of that they don't like is 'hanging off'. Lean angle is one thing, but if you're knee-out agressive posture they could technically get you for agressive driving if they wanted to. It's my understanding as well that yellow speed signs are "suggested speeds". | ||

I have been pulled over and got Sex Lights for several things Going around a corner and hanging off, draggin a knee around a decreasing radius off camber banked corner (it is terribly fun) Cop pulled me over as I exitted the corner, said that I looked like I was having too much fun.... really it was a chance to check the vehicle registration and new endorsement enforcement.... Two weeks later, he nails me for blowing a school zone at 35 (the posted speed) between the hours of school 7-3... DURING SUMMER BREAK... I do have a frequent flier punch card at the local PD's  | ||

Slicker, they have special classes at the schools during the summer for the special kind of kids that are likely to walk out into the street during rush hour  They are worth bonus points | ||

The yellow advisory signs indicate 'safe' speed recommendations for high-profile vehicles (those vulnerable to tip-over). Extreme lean angles are not illegal, your jurisdiction may have statues listed for aggressive driving/riding or exhibition of speed (both usually carry stiff penalties). Also consider, if you were to crash, 'too fast for conditions' could add insult to injury. It is best to know your local codes. Mark in Arizona | ||

You pot it Mark, the yellow signs are for commercial trucks and RVs which are disposed to instability at otherwise normal speeds on on/off ramps and tight corners. IMO one should keep the "hanging off" for the track and ride responsibly on the street...IJS. | ||

As an aside, the posted advisory speeds differ in engineering philosophy from state to state. In NY they figure out a good safe speed, toss in weather & ice, discount for poor drivers, and knock it down to an even 5, since that's what they have for the sign press. When I was a kid, in CO, they figured a good safe speed, knocked a little off for 1/2 worn tires, and posted that. New York drivers in Colorado get the Darwin treatment since they figure it's like home. | ||

In Florida yellow speed signs are suggest safe speeds, white signs are maximum posted speeds allowed. Dragging a knee in and of itself is not prohibited, but the law does say the rider must be "sitting astride the seat, facing forward, with one leg on either side of the motorcycle." Something to consider; If you are with one or more riders, it may appear that the group is "racing" and could very easily draw the attention of some LEOs that don't like motorcycles.... | ||

I always play it safe with corners that I'm unfamiliar with, but generally I've found that the yellow signs can be doubled safely. Any more than that may be possible, but would be pushing it for what limits should be explored on the street. | ||

But I have ran into a few signs in some odd places that need to have 10-20 mph taken off! |
