I started messing around listening to internet radio on the weekend for the first time in ages, found some very cool stations : ) Very cool for finding new music : )

Anybody else listen to internet radio much?
I was just going through live365 pages which brings up a pop-up window as a player. I vaguely recall using a separate player application ages ago, is it better to do it that way?
Is there a way to work out/estimate how much internet radio is going to eat in to my internet usage for the month?

cheers,
chili

It's ALL I listen to unless driving in the car.

I don't subscribe, just pull in the live feeds and just use it for background while doing other stuff - so sound quality isn't an issue.

I use USB self-powered speakers. Aint much but in the shop or garage, it's good enough.

I can't compare players since I'm just using REAL Player or Windoze media player.

I guess I really DON'T ask much of my online audio experience.

I live in a rural area where there is very poor radio reception.

After listening to radio on my computer for a while, I discovered that there are "WiFi" radios that behave a bit like a regular radio, in that they look like a radio, and can select thousands of stations. They work in tandem with an internet radio service called Reciva which can be sync'd to one's computer.

https://www.reciva.com/

The set I use is a Sangean WFR -20. I use it a bedside radio.

Just Google "Wi Fi radio" to find others.

I like Pandora because of the way it's designed to adapt to your musical preferences and create your playlists accordingly. By playing around with the settings you can either stick close to exactly what you like listening to, or allow other bands to be played that have similar styles to what you like.

Since Pandora is blocked at work, I use Slacker there. It's not quite as good as Pandora but still a decent source of music.

I think it was REAL player that I was using ages ago.
Sound quality isn't an issue, it's more to find new tunes and new bands. I had it running in the background on saturday and when I heard something I liked I could note it down and go looking for the band website or myspace.

I just had a quick look at Pandora and Slacker and neither are available outside the U.S. due to licensing.

I might play around with REAL player tonight and see if I can listen to the stations I found on live365 that way.

PS WiFi sets look neat. We're moving house soon and I'm starting to plot some ideas for music through the whole house... : D

I plug in my headset to the computer at work and listen to internet talk radio as much as possible. I also like Pandora for when I'm working out, commercial free music.

The iphone also has live radio feeds as well.

Limited usage?
Is it some sort of internet package?
What's you monthly limit?

Lemon, I had the same problem with Pandora, my IP addy is in France so it wouldn't allow me in.
I downloaded Hotspot Shield, it's a freeware program that changes/hides your IP.
Now when I want to use Pandora or similar, I launch the Hotspot shield then just go in as normal.
You have to put up with the advertising banners though.
Best of luck with it.

+1 for slacker,

At work I listen to the punk channel which you can adjust to artist. I also listne to the country channel as well.

All un-censored and free you just have to listen to a comercial every 10 to 20 min or so.

We are currently on a 15Gb/month internet plan, and we usually use about half that unless I go download crazy . I've been listening to stations on and off this week and it hasn't significantly effected total usage, so I don't think it's going to be an issue.

I'm still using live365 mainly, very cool listening to modern rock channels and hearing bands I've never heard before or that I've only read about. There are ads, but still a lot less than commercial radio here, with the added novelty of american accents ; ).

Holy crap, 15gb a month? I can burn that up in under an hour. Thats like a bar with a 1 beer limit, or a gas station with a one gallon limit.

We are currently on a 15Gb/month internet plan

My router this month is reporting 178gb. I would consider this to be a light month, as I have not used my slingbox.

Time to get Telstra of their arse and lay some fiber.

I guess I got used to just using ITunes for streaming audio from the net.

The rest of the time. My sat radio is in use.
