A friend at work is an absolute WW2 nut, & collector. He's got various de-activated weapons & all sorts of other stuff, but what he really wants is a period Willys Jeep.

They're hellishly expensive here in decent condition, & consequently almost impossible to find as a restoration project.

He knows I've got contacts over there & asked me if I knew where he might find one.

Should any of you guys fall over one somewhere or even have one mouldering in a barn, let me know.

Cheers.

If you know anyone in Great Britain, there were tons of them left over there after the war...would be much less expensive to transport to France.

Good condition Jeeps are a pretty penny over here as well, especially war-era years.

Mr Grumpy,
I am a member of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association, and restore WW2 vehicles on the side. Here is a pic of my Dad with our 42 Dodge WC-52 and our 41 Willys MB Slatgrill. We also have a 41 Plymouth staff car, 42 2 1/2 ton GMC CCKW, and a 42 Harley Davidson WLA.

here are a few links for him to get an idea on pricing, parts etc.

Thats just scratching the surface, but maybe help give him an idea.
Good luck on the hunt, feel free to shoot me an email with any questions. I am currently in Iraq, so I might be a little slow to respond

Here is a good one of my wife and Dad taking it for a ride at one of our WW2 reenacting events on Eisenhower's farm.

Thanks all.

Fast, Yup lots left after WW2, & those that weren't worked to death have either been restored & are worth mucho dinero or have rotted into the ground.

Stingaroo, ta for that Brian. Look after yourself over there, I think of you regularly as we wear the same hat.
(looks better on you than it did on Prior's melon)

I have a friend in Alpena Michigan that has one for sale in his front yard. It is in very rough shape though, the engine is partially dissasembled and it is very rusty.

Doesn't matter if it's a bit rough, but does need to be mostly complete & running.

MR G. Funny you should mention the hat, I wear it whenever I am not on mission or at the CP, as in right now haha. The restoration process is only as expensive as you make it, I would be happy to assist in finding any parts, the actual jeep, or any help. I usually help with friends whenever I am at home track down items. Once it is done up, its alot of fun.

I just sold a 1943 Willys I've had in my garage for 10 years. I went to Hemmings auto classifieds and placed an ad with them and sold it pretty fast.
This is a good place to look.

And if your friend gets one let me know I know an excellent place to get parts for it in North Carolina. Hey Swampy if it is near all original you can sell one not running for 3 grand and up!

Mr_grumpy- J C Whitney still appears to sell almost everything you'd need to build a Jeep from scratch (even the WWII variety) short of the frame. That would be one way to restore a complete rust-bucket.

If I find you, I expect an equally impressive Series Rover or Defender : )

I tried to convince him he needed a Landy but he wouldn't go for it.

I'll pass on the information & let him try get it past his wife before I go any further.

I've had any number of people ask me to find them American cars, mostly Mustangs for some reason, none of them ever come up with any money, always lame excuses. so I tend not to invest too much time on these things.

Thanks again for your input all.

(I'm still keeping an eye out for you Dennis.)

I've been periodically checking. But I don't have the $$$ right now. My ideal truck would be a '84 or '85 "One Ten" station wagon (diesel!!!). I'd remove the back seats and convert into an offroad camper : )
