Quick simple question:
Does the 2004 Sportster still have the trapdoor tranny cassette, or is it now an XB case-split type of assembly?
thanks.

Hmmm...I wonder if that means Baker will make a six-speed that will fit the XBs. Having an overdrive style 6th could be interesting for those long jaunts down the freeways.

Thanks for the info though.

Doing away with the trapdoor might be inconvenient but it makes for a stronger crankcase and tranny.

Means it should be able to handle more power.

There are options that reduce the strength concerns.
The convenience is the major reason that some/several/many race teams have machined a trapdoor setup into their XB style cases.
It all depends on one's goal and needs I guess. ; )

Side question: what would it take to convert a 2000-2003 XL to a rubber mount?

Got a side project thought going, but would prefer it to have both the rubber mount and the trapdoor in a Sportster format.

I guess I don't do well with the status quo game.

Mikej, I guess so, but a race teams convenience might outweigh other factors.

You are right though, there are ways to maintain strength, billet doors are pretty strong and used to be an option for big inch Sporty motors in the old days (wish I'd invested in one).

Mikej..not sure that it would be too hard of a conversion..Rowe makes a rubber mount sporty frame for the XLs..I think they use the oem FXR or Dyna mounts??
