Hey Bubba-

Despair not. I got a fortune cookie once that said: "You are about to enter into a very large financial transaction." Then I got the bill.

Hey, Bubba; it'll get better. As crappy as this past week was, you'll get a week that's as good as possible to balance it out. We had Chinese food a few weeks ago, and my younger daughter got a fortune that said,"If you're hungry, have another fortune cookie". We're still laughing at that.
CJ, if you want a song that will haunt you all afternoon, sing the chorus of "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille"

Well,

I have had a truly shitty week to say the least.

I told the department head today I may be gone in two weeks. I have had it with this situation here...

try as I might to get work done there is a big fat lazy COW in the middle of my way...

this bovine keeps putting up obstacles in front of me and I can't get around it... if all else fails I will have to shoot the cow and make a hamburger out of it...

this cow makes twice as much money as I do and does half the work... it eats all of the grass and then it shits all over my desk...

I have tried to set it out to pasture and it won't go it just sits on my desk and shits on me...

I have not slept in a few days and I am pissed... I don't like being pissed, but unless things improve dramatically in the next week I may be looking at moving back to Madison in the next month...

too bad that I have to work at an 'animal farm' this is all metaphorical of course... I have been talking to people at the "oversight agency" and to say the least I might be fired already when I get back in on tuesday...

but ah to not have to see that f****** cow again shitting on my desk would make the lay off worth the while!!!

I AM NOT KIDDING I HAVE NEVER TOLD THEM I AM LEAVING... AND NOW I HAVE... damn f****** cow... I wish it would go away.

Charlotte
PS I am taking the day off.... blah!!!

luckily for me, Hee Haw happened during two stages of my life when US tv had no effect on me directly . . . the stupid time and the dim time

Been a pretty good week for me. Busy as hell at work, but I think Im making some progress in my climb up the ladder.

Plant manager just made me the point man for sample runs & trials. Also took over purchasing all supplies for the dept. Actually got my own company credit card..never had one of those before. I think we need a new Weber grill back in the maintenance shop: D

I didn't do extrusion, but I ran the Injection Molding shop for Hubbell for years. I loved the sample runs and mold trials. I love a good challenge.
Best o' luck movin' up that ladder!

It's fun being the point man. I guess you could say I'm the point man at my work. I've been working on bring a new laminator online at work this week. Been work alot of long days this week.

Don't know much about extruders except those use in flex packaging. We've got 2 Egan's and a Rotomec extruder.

fun,fun,fun

Havent used those 2. Have run extruders from American Kuhne, PTI, Brampton, Davis-Standard, Cincinatti, HPM.

Did blown film flexible packaging for 15 years running everything from mono layers up thru 5 layer dies, and film gauges that ran from .001 to .026

That was mainly medical packaging & we also did inline printing up to 4 colors & inline slitting.

Now I am involved in flat sheet extrusion which is a little different, but the same basics are there. Compared to blown film, this stuff is like kindergarten. We run film gauge from .025 up to .250, those sheets run real slow. Each sheet of .250 is 44" wide by 56" long & weighs over 20lbs apiece.

Now we are getting into the slip sheets & Hormel wants some ungodly amount of them. Uses what amounts to garbage resin & regrind so its pretty cost effective. Been doing a lot of trial runs & testing the last few weeks.

What kind of laminator did you use? We had a couple at my last place, but the only one I ever ran was a small inline one with an extruder. We ran the mayo stand covers used in the operating room, where all the surgical instruments are placed on. 23" wide bag with a 18" wide piece of non woven dexter material that we laminated on using hotmelt & a glue wheel. I guess years ago the laminator we had was actually used in a diaper factory & we converted it over for our own use.

I spent about 7 years running & maintaining that line & when the head engineers were brought in the get a 2nd one in place, it was pretty cool when I got to be very involved in the design of the new line. Actually utilized a number of my ideas for improvements to increase rates & quality.

Ok, im sure that was a pretty boring deal for those who arent into the plastic trades at all.: D

Both of the Egan extruders are over 50 years old and still going strong. The Rotomec has six printing stations and one laminating station. We had two blown film lines over at our pilot plant, but sold the business to New England Extrutions. 10 layers was the most we ever done. It's pretty cool watching a blown film extruder run. We even have an extruder over at the pilot plant that runs a web that is 15" wide max.

As far as laminators we use Rotomec and Richmond Ind. We run alot of medical, food packing, and cigarette foil. Our new laminator can run solvent based or solventless based adhesive.

We also make all of our own foil used in production.

We had a 5 layer pilot line that was capable of running a 30" wide web.

The largest we ran in our plant was a 65" layflat.

But our plant up in MN ran sileage bags. Those things are like 15' in diamter. Biggest damn blown film line I have ever seen. 9 story tower on it.

I had a company in Indiana call me up & offer me a job with their 7 layer lines. They thought I would enjoy the challenge. Told em no thanks, after the experience I had with 2 Brampton 5 layer lines I wasnt ready for another major headache. I always preferred the tri-layers myself. Fun lines to run & full of possibilities.

Right now all I have at my work place for the sheetline is 3 lines, 2 of which are mono layers & the new line is a twin extruder with a mixing chamber that diverts the material into a tri-layer finished product.

No printing here except for dual head imaje printers that are capable of printing type or bar codes onto the sheets.

Right now I am trying to convince the bean counters to purchase a small extruder so we can pellitize our own regrind. If the Hormel takes off like they expect, I think the chances of getting one are excellent.

Great thing about knowing plastics, is that good paying jobs arent that hard to find..they usually come looking for you. And I love the funny look on peoples faces when they ask what you do & you say "extrusion"...they give you that lost puppy look. Nobody ever thinks about where the plastic they use comes from.

Good Old Buck. Strange, at one time I worked with Merle's older brother and my older brother did work for Buck. I think Buck still plays at the Palace on weekends but I'm not sure as his health was poor last I heard. Never been to the Crystal Palace but I should just to see if his old Caddy is there. He used to drive it everywhere so fast the bull horns stuck on the front whistled. I went in the BlackBoard drunk & underage one nite.Soon as I entered Buck & the band quit playing and everybody stood up.You could get your butt kicked for just walking in that place. The door at the end of the bar said emergency exit and thats what I needed so out I went, backwards, with some good old boys in hot pursuit. Good thing I went backwards as the boys thought that a butt sticking was as good as a butt kicking.Thats where Buck parked his Caddy that nite.It could have been worse.
Country is ok & I like some of Buck's stuff but my kids love it. But if they play Streets of Bakersfield one more time I could be kidless.
