Has anybody tried to remove the manufacturing nubs and seams that are clearly visible through the plastic? How many times has someone asked you if you're tank was cracked? I would like to be able to polish these out if at all possible. I have Valencia Orange and my flyscreen is polka dotted if you take a close up look at it. Anybody have the know-how and has had success? |

I think the only way you could ever fix it would be to wet sand it. I have the "kick ash" plastics, and they are barely translucent, so they are sort of a waste. When I replace them (already have a crack) I will just get basic black. |

You can't they go all the way through. |

I noticed that after I got mine and thought it was cracked. |

I wet sanded the parting lines on the underside of my red translucid air box cover, because when someone noticed the irregularity they asked me 'Did you break it already?'. I had some success, but there was a small section (maybe about an inch or so long) that was 'inside' the part - the top and bottom surfaces were flat and smooth, but you could still see the 'crack'. It hid easily enough with an old Buell helmet sticker, but I'd have preferred that it would be as smooth as I had expected before I had begun. Oh yeah, I guess there are no plastics experts on here. Well, I'm no expert with plastics, but I do have some experience with them. Kinda reminds me of a knit line. 1313 P.S. I guess pics would probably help, huh? Those will have to wait... |

Post pics and I can tell you what it is, sounds like a parting line or an ejection pin by the description of 'nub' (Message edited by spiderman on May 04, 2009) |

Yeah, my new box has them as well. It looks like a mold line. Has the Kick Ash boxes gotten darker? i swear they looked medium smoke in all the official Buell pics, but mine's damn near solid black...? ~SM |

Here are the end results. MANY THANKS to Ustorque for his input on the steps he used to rid his air box cover of the 'X'! Looking good from the outside (with the sticker covering the 'knit line'...):
Underneath the sticker (the best I could get the pics:
I wish I could find the pics that I took showing the before state, but to me the light line (U-shape) is a parting line, and at the center it almost appears to be where the plastic was injected into the mold. 1313 |
