Damn your list almost mirrors mine..except I have never been to Algiers.

And whats worng with the redneck hoods? Come on boy, squeal like a pig: D

That reminds me of the one of the funniest damn things I have ever seen. We were visiting the wifes family down in Redbay AL & theres this 4 door Plymouth Volare being driven by your typical 17-18 yr old kid. Nothing special about it at all except it had big assed white letters on the rear window, same kind you see the kids with the Hondas & toyotas have. Spelled out "Juiceman". It cracked me up. Baby blue 4 door volare with juiceman in 10" white letters.

Crusty,
Yeah, the Coke, ice water and scenery was all sweet at Hooter's!

Nevco,
The weather is pretty much the same in Minnesota. Remember last summer was not real bad...until that week in August! June should be pretty nice. I might have to pack a sweater though. It might be cold!

Dyna,
Yeah, I only saw the main drag in Racine with Applebee's, Toys r Us, etc. and the road coming in off of I94. I never went much farther east than the Days Inn.

There are areas in north Minneapolis that are way worse than any thing I saw in Racine!

And LA is a big assed town. I only spent 2 weeks out there & either I was unlucky & never got to compton or maybe I just managed to hit all the tourist areas?

I stayed in Anaheim, checked out Long beach, hollywood, Beverly hills, etc etc. Very very disappointed in Rodeo Drive, they show it on tv & movies like its some huge deal. Its narrow & short.

Years ago I visited my aunt when she lived in Omaha. I went looking for the ghetto...dont ask me why, its just something I always do, it gives me a pulse of what the town is like sometimes. Anyways I couldnt find one. My aunt told me they tend to hide the ghettos there pretty well. Took me on a tour & it was almost like the ones down south, tin roofs & all.

Which on yet another tangent reminds me of yet another ghetto. It was next to a sonic drive in down in Mississippi. Trailer park was next door & right out front was a single wide trailer. They must have had a baby or something & needed to add a room so there was an actual camper..the kind that go in the bed of a pickup...that was pop rivited & then duct taped for sealant attached to the side of this trailer. It was propped up on cinder blocks & I wish I had my camera then

tin roofs & all.
Thats the roofing of choice down here, Light weight, cools quickly when the sun goes down and is bushfire retardant.
By that statement you would see 3/4 of Australia as a Ghetto. Wish I could afford one of the seven figure Ghetto dwellings.

Hey Dyna...Eat my shorts!!! LA is great. In 30 years out there, I never had any trouble. Yeah, I packed heat, but that was because the office required it to get the gal's to their cars and protect the computers while burning the midnight oil.

One of my best friends was LAPD in South Central where all the interesting television stuff happens. Interesting stories but not any different than what I get from my friends that worked here on the Milwaukee PD. Think the main difference was "Suicide by Cop" in LA compliments of conflicts between the street gangs and the prison gangs.

The poor parolee is faced with working for both his old street gang and the prison gang that protected his cherry ass while down. Problem is the two obligations often conflicted. Ergo, you pop a cap at a cop and let him kill you. Much more humane than the dues the respective gangs will take out of your hide.

What did you expect from Rodeo Drive? Geez, all it is, is Tijauna del Norte only run by the Arabs and with a little higher class hooker.

Dumb question...What's with the Ghetto Fetish? We all have to get along together to make this planet work. God knows, the steps mankind has taken really haven't worked. Perhaps if we just all play Outrider and enjoy our limited social encounters over and over again with all the different groups, we won't need no stinkin' colors. Get my drift?

Bill...Ghettos are not color oriented, if you or anyone are getting that thought process from my posts, well thats incorrect. I have been in white ghettos, black ghettos, latino ones, mixed ghettos, etc. Its more a way of life than anything else.

A fetish?? Maybe: D I dont know, its just that I get tired of coloring inside the lines & like to see how the other half lives. For me one of the best experiences I have had was my week in Cozumel. Now you would almost think an Islan in the Caribbean would be like the post cards & I would say that 75% of it is. But for a tiny little island they had quite a few ghetto areas. Familys living in an abandoned lighthouse, houses with no roofs & people still living there, houses where the exterior was nothing more than cut down down trees..sort of a weird version of a log cabin except you could see right thru the house.

I dont want to see the mansions & the rich assholes homes, I want to see the side that doesnt get the preferential treatment in todays society. Tends to make you appreciate what you have just a bit more.

Dyna...When you put it that way, I can follow it. I subscribe to the Good and Bad Theory. I associate with the Good and shine the Bad. Pretty simple, but it works.

Nev,
What's your take on Boyle Heights out west? ; )
I used to have a little TR3A and headed into L.A. and various neighborhoods on the weekends with my camera gear on the passenger seat and the side curtains left at home. Head into town around 3am and drive around until dawn and head home taking photos of various sights along the way. Pershing Square at 4am is very different than 4pm on a Saturday. Picked up a friend one day who was passing through at LAX, he had a long layover so we scheduled a game of golf at Anaheim Hills, took the Imperial Highway all the way there from the airport. He, for some strange reason, got extremely nervous in some of the neighborhoods we went through. Don't know why, doesn't everyone block off streets with trash cans and dumpsters on wheels when certain cars pass by? : )

Maybe we should suggest an off-center "tourist tour" for this homecoming. Call it the Slum Run, kevlar optional. And since the cc law just got shot down here perhaps the less disclosed is often the better.

Agreed. This thread, not to mention the entire BWB (with the exception of the War Channel), is about Buell's and Buell events.

I apologize for getting off topic.

MikeJ...We can laugh about the places you mentioned next time we meet. Lots of funny stories.

Buelliedan wrote way back at the beginning of this meander:
"So who is planning on going? I think I will be coming with 3-4 bikes in tow!!"

Don't know yet if I'll be in town, and if so don't know what part of the festivitivies I'll be at. Will probably know more by the time they/Buell posts the actual event/pay schedule. But if I'm in town then then I'll be around in some capacity or another, spectating/lurking/participating/tbd.

ps, if I am in town I won't be wearing no rouge at any rogue events. ; )

Crusty....if you do a search of the archives you will see that I wanted to do a ghetto run last year during the 20th.

Hell anyone can go to the lake or some mansion, big deal, hit the ghettos & you will take some stories home with you: D

Take the guys up to some of the finer areas of Milwaukee....just be prepared to run the lights.

CJ..little rock has a shitload of Ghettos. There is a reason cops films there & not here. No really good ghettos here. Wasnt Little rock also listed as the worst place to live in a recent edition of the Places rated almanac?

Buellidan..what CJ said: D

Like when Court ended up in the worst part of Gary, IN late at night pushing a fueled starved test mule X-1?

That was ugly..very ugly. Folks sitting on the porches of fun down homes as I, in a blue 1-peice aerostcih pushed the yellow X-1 past.

HOMECOMING QUESTION ???

I have not been following the AMA racing threads on the BWB and am interested in learning what class(es) Buells will be running in at the AMA event at Road America on June 5th.

Thanks in advance for the information.

Can someone please tell me what a Ghetto is???

We don't have them here on the island!!

There is absolutely no where in the City or the whole island where I would be hesitant to go at any time of the day or night.

Do you know what a shanty town is? Ever see any movies with lots of gang shootouts?

Ever watch Cops? I think every episode they film is in the ghettos. Kinda funny how you never see them film Cops in Beverly hills..course with OJ & Robert Blake running around maybe they should have.

I thought a shanty town was what you see on a northern small lake during the winter.
