Just wondering, are there any Badwebbers considering attending this event? and If there are enough of us going, would we consider a meeting place prior to arriving at the Pentagon parking lot so we could ride as a group?

I'd imagine a group of 40 or so Buells wouldn't impress the thousands of H-D's in attendance, but it would make a better statement then having us spread out, one here & one there.

As of right now I plan on going but in a round about way. We're going from Ky. to D.C. by way of Camp Lejune. As I type this I haven't even got my crank pin in the mail yet so I still have some assembly to tend to.

XB12 keep in touch. I live near DC now but didn't get the chance to do RT last year since I deployed to Iraq earlier that month. A "school" of Buells sounds good to me

If you got 40 Buells in one group there I think the DC hospitals couldn't keep up with the heart attacks. In 06 I was the only Buell with the Run For the Wall group that started in LA. I didn't see another Buell with any another groups until at the Pentagon. At the Pentagon I walked by about a quarter of the bikes there and saw something like eight Buells. That took a few hours btw...
A big group of Buells there would be a cool thing.
Sadly I'm not planning on going again this year but it's on my to do again list for some day.
On Sunday you are in the lot a long time. It's usually somewhat hot and muggy. Use the restroom before you head to the Pentagon and take plenty of water. Take something for shade if you want to hang out by your bike as there's none in the lot. The lines for everything are horrible but food, drink and port-a-pottys are there. If you are early enough and are so inclined you can sit under the few trees at the entrance and watch others ride in. Or take the foot bridge across the river to the park and stake out a table or shade trees. Most people don't know about the bridge. When you ride out to the Monuments it's a hoot as the public love it and many will want to slap your hand as you go by if you hold it out. People will even hold out their kids for it.
The "candlelight" gathering at the Wall the nite before is sobering, and very cool. When the lights are back on and if you have had a lucky rain the drops bead on the bronze of the nurses and sparkle red, white and blue and the water sheets on the bronze of the grunts and they look just like they have just climbed out of a muddy rice paddy.
The turn out and people you meet in all the small towns on the way is just amazing.

On the cross country part I think the Rolling Thunder guys with their smaller groups do a better job and would be more enjoyable as the RFTW guys want to put everybody in one big group to make a showing.

We're (Buell of Frederick) a jumpoff point for the ride every year. We had about 1,000 bikes last year.

I can't guarantee I can have a "Buell Corrall" set aside...but I'd be more than happy to have folks gather here at the shop. If nothing else, a group photo would be in order ; )

Check our sponsor page here on badweb; it links to our webpage, which has directions to the shop. In typical traffic we're about 45 minutes to the Mall. I've never been on the ride itself (too busy picking up the pieces of the shop after 1000 bikes roll out) but my understanding is it's about 1 hour to the traffic jam / parking lot. Many folks I talk to go on the ride, and dive off when they hit the GW Parkway to avoid the parking mess. YMMV.

Oh, and I will be working that day : )

Wow... we'll we've got a small group going from Hampton Roads, not all Buells. I was just wondering if anyone else was planning on going. We'll let the board decide. If there's enough interest then we'll pick a meeting place prior to going to the Pentagon Parking lot. Buell of Frederick sounds like a good choice, albeit too early to be open I'd assume.

If not, I'll see any of you who happen to venture out in passing. It would be cool though.

My bad, the "candlelight" gathering was on Friday nite, not Saturday. I'm getting CRS.
Saturday morning was a "party on the Mall" kind of thing with a street fair on a closed side street. Spent a lot of time walking around the Monuments then as the crowds were not bad.
One of the guys I was riding with had done a lot of RFTW runs and told us what a zoo the Mall could be after doing the circuit so at it's end we didn't stop either but started back to California right away.

Or take the foot bridge across the river to the park and stake out a table or shade trees.

That park has a reputation as a gathering place for the homosexual crowd.

Yuck, sadly so does the closest parking lot to my house for the local bike trail.

Didn't see anybody but the RT people there that day tho. Maybe all the big bad bikers with the skull rags and butt-less chaps scared them all off? (Or was it that I just couldn't tell many of them apart you think?)
