Is the guy on a website like advrider or badweb? If he is, check out his posts. You should get a good idea. ALso, Paypal can be used. Does not really guarantee anything, but if he does not come through, then you can turn him in and cause problems for him that way. Maybe he will trust you - have him send you the muffler and then send him the dough. Trust is a two way street. |

"have him send you the muffler and then send him the dough." I've never seen that method fly. I know as a seller I would never ship parts without having a cleared payment in my possession. Consider having him list the item on eBay, and you can pay a little over his current asking price to cover the listing fees. You can then pay through paypal with very good buyer protection. (make sure you coordinate the date and time that the item will be listed, and use a "Buy It Now") Luckily I've only had two eBay experiences where I got ripped off, but in both cases a formal complaint filed with paypal got me a prompt refund. |

If he has paypal you can get his account email and send him the funds directly there is no reason to pay the extra to go through ebay. I have done this with a right side switch house. Part was in Las Vegas I was in Virginia at the time. Money goes straight to him, sends an email to his account and he is good to ship it to ya. |

I do paypal whenever possible. I won't buy a big ticket item online any other way. |

Why not see if there's a bad web member that's know in the area, have him pick it up for you? |

if he ebays it, tell him to put it up as make an offer, then he can decline all offers except yours. if he does buy it now someone else could steal it from under you just like happens to every buell part i ever bid on! you buellers are some rich mo fo's! |

I trust my fellow Buellers. I just bought some stuff in the classifieds section, the seller wanted a money order. My cutoff is $100, I won't send one larger than that because it is not worth the risk of something happening and possibly getting ripped off. I was looking to buy an exhaust off someone, and I know I couldn't sleep at night wondering if a piece of paper worth $1000 disappeared. At least with Paypal, the payment is instant, and if there is issues there is protections for the buyer and seller. There are nasty people out there whether you want to believe it or not. |
