Seeing that as of late I have read at least 5 different references to my personal taste of the colored tires I thought I would open a thread to keep everyone updated of my experience/feelings/review of the orange Tomahawk tires. For some wierd reason I feel like enquiring minds want to know....

Well Dyna, the Tomahawk dealer was not giving you a B.S. line when he said he hasn't recived the final product of Orange tires. I ordered mine back in November and still have not received them. When I called Desser Tire Co. as to the delay they told me they were not happy with the way some of the colors came out and were not going to ship a product they were not happy with. For that I gave them one thumb up. Unfortunately, I had to call them 3 times before I got the real reason for the delay and like the movie The Money Pit they kept telling me "it should be done in about two weeks". For that they get two thumbs down.

So due to these production problems I have yet to receive the orange tires. Yeah I am still ordering them despite my dislike of their customer service, I am kinda used to it though being a 3%'er.

As far as everyone elses feelings about the tires, to each his own I guess. I have heard the poser comments and I just let them blow by. Personally I would love to discuss and define a deffinition of "Poser" we could all live by because I believe the word is thrown around this forum to freely and has lost it's strength of meaning.

I know the reliablility issue has also come up. This one I am deffinately interested in. For the type of riding I do, I don't see a problem. I don't lean my bike to the point of tearing holes in the knees of my pants. In all of the reviews I have read, I didn't read about the tires peeling apart like some people have aluded to. They may not be race tires, but I don't intend on racing so that really doesn't matter.

Finally, some of you may be reading this thinking, "why is he bothering to write out all of this boring crap, does he feel the need to justify this to us?". Well the answer to that is simple. I am stuck at work, there is 4 foot high snow piles at the end of my driveway, and I have nothing better to do right now. If it were summertime, I would be out riding (on my colored tires). As far as the justification topic goes there is only one person I need to justify any purchase to and that is my wife, and that is easy to do when these tires are priced cheaper then most on the market. In closing I would just like to say to all of the people who believe that tires should only be black...

Can't we all just get along?

Koz,
do they come in yellow? I figure they'd be great if I get off my a** and do a track day or school this year.

I wouldn't suggest them for a track day. They were built for their looks, not super sticky, 1000 mile, super gription type duty.

Hey Koz, Buellers, like their bikes are "Different in every sense". If you like colored tires, put them on and enjoy how they look. I think it's funny how someone will spend hundreds of dollars making their bike look like it's made of gray burlap, then justify it by pointing out how much weight they saved.(Three pounds, four ounces) If you like your bike colorful, go for it!
Two or three years ago, somebody was bitching that Buell wasn't offering the right accessories. He was disgusted with the Pegasus covers - clutch, axle, ignition, etc. - and felt that the factory should be offering titanium exhausts. I wonder how long a TI exhaust would last on a Buell? And how much would it cost?
Everybody is entitled to his(or her) own opinion. But theirs doesn't smell any better than mine.

Owning a custom graphics business I have seen "interesting" ideas of what people think looks good. I have also made a lot of interesting pieces for people that corporate america would never come up with.

Life is too short to be boring.

Koz it just shows that you aren't worried about what people think about you and your bike as long as you are happy.
That's more than cool with me. You see, I feel kind of the same way you do. Last year I bought (much to the shegrin of people that know way more than I about the subject than I) a quirky handling, under powered, motorcycle.

Koz,
Keep us posted of your results once you get them. My main concerns are safety and functionality. Beyond that to each their own.

Too bad the 100th is over, I could have put white tires on the white bike and got a set of white leathers and a white helmet and joined the parade with a banner flying that read: Buell ain't no pipe dream.

Hey, I bet the purple tires would look good on a Dyna.
I saw the tires at the New York show, and I thought the orange tires looked like crap. They looked like the black from the carcass was bleeding through and making the orange dirty looking. The blue tires did look O.K., but I'm partial to the color blue. Anyhow, when you get them, give us a report on how they work and feel. Who knows, this might be the start of a new fashion trend. Or somethin'.

fully agreed that personal taste is just exactly that . . . .. personal . . . . you're building your scoot for yourself, and for no one else (otherwise you'd be riding a starboyz fur covered beater, yes?)

Koz...Glad to hear you are going to get the new ones. Can't wait to see them on your bike!

Dana...This is the one scenario I missed. It's the show your pre-production product and tell them the finished product will look/be better. Looks like the rep wasn't blowing smoke this time. LOL

Dana...Color I agree with, but concerning the quality, their website makes certain claims that sound really good.

So regardless of any past experiences with automotive retreads I am of the wait and see nature. My last experience with those was as a starving college student in the 1960's and I am more than confident technology has improved since then.

Heck, I would think the worst case scenario is that they are decent sport touring tires with the thread life of a sport tire.

Okay, I just checked prices on the tires, and found a couple of reviews. One, it looks like they'd be a pretty sticky in the "sport" compound for a track day or two. Two, Damn, they cost more than my Avons!

With my luck I will probably get the tires once the riding season has begun and then have to take my bike out of commision for a day or two to get them mounted. I know that color can be extremely manipulated on a website, but the orange tires they have there look pretty nice.

P.S. I like Mike's all white theme. YOu would look like a biker angel from a cheesy 80's movie or something.

Koz I gave them a call today just to get pricing. Also asked how long to get the tires seeing you have been waiting long and this guy told me 4 weeks.....BS.You have been waiting what now 6-8 weeks and counting???There gonna be losing alot of sales if people have to wait that long for crying out loud.I could have tires worn down to the threads right now that doesn't mean i'll wait 4 weeks.Sheeesh!!!

Ahhhh...patience is a rewarding virtue. Best to wait and get the pretty tires than to push them and find the show sample tires on your doorstep. LOL

Not to mention, 4 weeks from today is like 8 weeks from 4 weeks ago. Hey Blake...Did I get the math right???

Well, when they initially offered to take orders (November) they said all tires would ship in December. Some tires have already shipped. I guess it depends on the color you need. I figured it's no big deal since there is at least 1 foot of snow on the ground. I still have life left in my tires anyway. I was planning on wasting the rest of my tire at the Appleton Harley open house in May on their Burnout pit. In a perfect world, I would have a set of the original rims for my bike (in chrome) and have the new orange tires ready to go on after that open house. I really wanted your old rims Dana, but Dave didn't want to seperate them from the bike. I totally understand, but was still bummed a little. I wish I could find someone local who wants to trade a set of the regular grey rims for my PM rims.

The orange tires would go well on a Parkway Blue S2-T, or maybe a Molten Orange/Nuclear Blue S1.

I'm thinking red tires would look kinda sharp with my black XB, much better than a yellow XB as I LOVE black !!!
