I mentioned this previously, but the Buell demo truck will be at Ocala HD tomorrow. I have invited a few of my friends to ride up with me and wanted to extend the invitation to you all. We are meeting at the Ractrac gas station on MLK in Seffner at 8 am. We will ride up, hang out, ride some Buells, eat lunch and head back as some of us has a wedding to go to. So, if you want to go, meet us at the Racetrac. I will be on my FXDX.
Dan

Dyna,

We should be at the Dealer by 10. We will be able to hang around for an hour or 2. Look for the old, beat up, plain white Ford van (race bike in the rear)!!

Neil, I hope you feel better soon. We'll eventually meet up, I'm sure of it.

Paint, I'm sure I'll see you tomorrow.

As it turns out, six of my cruiser riding buddies want to ride up. I don't know if I can get them to demo a Buell when we get there, but I am going to try.

Paint, sorry I missed you. You may have been there, I don't know.

I did meet up with a guy named Harry that I met at a Buell ride at Lakeland HD a bunch of months ago. He really impressed me the way he kept up with guys on much faster bikes with him on a Blast. He was there to demo a couple of Buells. He is on the short side and test rode an S and an R. From what he said to me I got the impression he was not pleased with the heat the bikes generated.

As for me, I had a great day. It was an uneventful ride up, but I have had little time to ride lately and just being on the bike was wonderful. When we got to Ocala I was able to talk three of my buddies into riding some Buells as well. Two of them are hardcore cruiser riders and I don't think it would have mattered how great the Buells were, they really weren't interested. The other guy is younger and used to ride a sport bike, though he has a cruiser now. He rode the 1125r and the Firebolt. He liked the 1125r, he didn't care for the shaking of the Firebolt.

As for me, I rode an X, an XT, and an 1125r. I have ridden them all before, but it is weird how perceptions and opinions change over time. For example, the X did not seem too tall for me today. It is still tall, but it didn't bother me as much as it has in the past. Also, I rode the X and the XT back to back. They were VERY similar. I guess I am not perceptive enough to really tell any difference in their handling, at least on the lame ride they took us on. I enjoyed them both a lot. I actually preferred the shorter windscreen on the X on the ride we took. I might feel different on a long highway ride, but I found the shorter screen quieter. I did feel more wind on my chest though, so, like I said, a long high speed ride might change my mind. Basically, though, the bikes were so similar I think I could be happy with either. My only complaint was the heat on my right leg. It wasn't painful or anything like that. It was evident though, and I'd much prefer it wasn't.

The 1125r was a whole other experience. Personally, I think the white/hero blue 1125r is Buell's best looking bike. So I rode one. Now keep in mind I have never owned a sport bike. I have ridden dirt bikes and cruisers. I have demo'd an 1125r before, though. For some reason, today I found the bike VERY uncomfortable. I don't remember it being that uncomfortable. I didn't want it to be uncomfortable. Today, though, I couldn't wait to get off the bike. Weird. OTOH, I didn't feel any heat from the 1125r. The motor was very smooth. It ran very nice. I understand it is comfortable by sport bike standards. I guess I am just getting old and brittle. Based on today's ride, I'd not consider an 1125r for me.

One last thing. I also took the opportunity to test ride an XR1200. I really liked that bike as well. It may be heavier than the Buell, but I didn't feel the weight on the roads I got to ride. It ran smoother than the X/XTs. It had no heat. It sounded really nice. I'd need a windscreen on it, as at 70 I was feeling a good bit of wind pressure. But it was a bike I could easily see myself owning.

nice little write up dan. as fara s the windscreens are concerned, i had to take it off altogether until i got one from strada. got the brackets and a lot taller windscreen for a really good deal. the stock windscreen on the xt just killed me with the noise from the turbulance. i wasn't really impressed with the 1125r either although i totally agree with the white on the bike. white does a buell good. you should have tried the cr though cause that one i could see owning one day after i get the wife her scg back.(wrecked her other one 1 1/2 yrs ago) as far as your buddies go, i have one like that. at first he says he wouldn't be caught dead with a wind shield, end up getting a road king with a detachable. then after i got my first ultra he started to get jealous and after getting a classic for his wife to put a trike kit on he realized how nice it was and got himself the 100th ultra classic. still haven't been able to talk him into trying out the buells yet.

Thanks for the complement Dan...I am definately to the point with the Blast where I need to move up, or drag out a wheelbarrow full of money for engine and suspension upgrades.

I really liked the Scg...with some minor mods like adjustable levers it will be great...The ergonomics are a perfect fit for me...it has better brakes, steers faster, has more compliant suspension, and of course has way more power...

I would still buy another Blast...but only of Buell modernizes it with more power and adjustable high quality suspension...

Dyna,

We left the Dealer just after the 1st Demo ride. We needed to get going. We'll have to catch up some time soon.
