So, over a week ago I picked up a bunch of parts I ordered from the dealer. One side of the chin fairing was mysteriously missing from the pile. Parts guy said it looked like it had been delivered to the wrong dealer, that they'd try to figure out what was going on there.

Fast forward to today. Twice I've called to see if anyone knew when I'd be able to pick up my part, and both times no one knew anything about it. So I call again today, and the guy I talked to said to give him a few minutes and he'd track it down. After being forced to sit through all the H-D phone ads, he finally comes back on. Guess where my part is?

Jacksonville, Florida.

It was supposed to be left in Dalton Georgia.

I'd say UPS missed their mark by just a little bit.

That's why they're called, Useless Parcel Service, so often.

I ordered some Precision Engineering 1" risers about a year ago. Tracked order on-line at UPS.com for several days, after ~3 days it said "out for delivery". Package stayed in "out for delivery" status for a week. I finally got a call from a stranger in my neighborhood who said he found some stuff lying in the street (unboxed) with some paperwork half a block away with my name on it. Yep, they were my bar risers. Bolts were missing.

PE offered to send me new risers at no charge but I just wanted the bolts. 3 phonecalls to UPS couldn't resolve their screwup. I tried to explain the story to them, they said "we need to see the packaging". "There AIN'T any packaging!!!". Somehow they couldn't quite grasp that concept. I finally gave up. (Great bar risers BTW.)

The dealership called me late yesterday afternoon to confirm they had NO idea WHERE in Jacksonville the part had been deposited. This should be fun.

Guess I'll just have to reinstall my old fairing for the time being.

"found some stuff lying in the street (unboxed) with some paperwork half a block away with my name on it. "

Sounds like someone messed with the package after it was delivered. I had a DVD stolen once this way - my neighbor said she saw UPS deliver it, but no package was at the house when I got off work. Nothing to do about it since the package did not require a signature.

Now when I order anything I make sure and note that I want the package left behind some bushes in front of the house.

That's what I would have thought too, but UPS continued to show the status of the package as "out for delivery". I figure it fell out of the back of the truck or somebody went in the truck when the driver wasn't looking and grabbed it.

I had a friend with a package from FedEx that was "out for delivery" for three days. When she finally called them, they said that the vehicle had caught on fire. She had to have the company resend a new order...

I like USPS - there's a locking package box next to the mailbox. Key goes in my mailbox when I have a package. It's safe and sound, and no worries about it being messed with.

UPS is good too - if I'm not home and a signature is required, I can call them and then go pick it up at the hub that night.

I've had a couple of problems with UPS over the years but I cut them some slack from now on.

My son will be getting out of the Navy this July after 6 years on a sub.
Before he left for the Navy, he worked at UPS. First as a loader, then a sorter, then as a "retagger". That's the person that corrects crappy or damaged shipping labels.

They have benefits for part timers, a tuition refund program and flexable work hours.

If you leave UPS in good standing to go into the military, they will hold a spot for you 60 months (5 years).
My son was in for 72 months, they are still keeping a spot for him even though they are not doing any hiring. All it took was a couple of phone calls and everything is set.
He comes home, has a job, gets tuition reimbursment for his general credits at the local JC, has some health benefits.
Then when he is ready to go to engineering school, he can use his GI bill for that.
Works out pertty good...

Yup, I'll cut them some slack for a occasional missing or late package... however I always require a signature....
