and in the south during summer..... don't ask me why but that's how it works out most of the time....

Yup, the freight relocating company I work for has been slammed the last few weeks, especially here in Ohio.

My tattoo artist has made enough money to go to Italy for two weeks while my sleeve sits unfinished LOL.

Now that ur making money, rip the lights back out of the race bike so I have a reason to loiter at nelson this summer.

Yeah i am in the curb and gutter industry and our bidder has never had more commercial bidding since the early 80's.
God i hope so much that it turns around and we get lots of work, last year i did more fishing than work, which of course is fine but i went broke almost.

I have brokered more contracts than ever before over the last 6 months and the business just keeps rolling in! I've had to hire 8 more full time workers, and according to my projections, I will be hiring 50 more before the end of the year. It's great to be a small business owner right now! I may even call up my congressional representatives and thank them for the stimulus!

If we can get past this eternal, infernal tourist weather and get some HOT going down here it will be good...it has been endless MONTHS of 70 degree weather with 45% relative humidity...it SUX!!!! I'll start smiling when the overnight temps don't fall below 80 and the humidity is in the 80% range all day...then will be a work a day.

I work in marketing for a welding mfg. We are exceptionally slow yet. Construction should pick up, the season is coming.

The rentals in moving trucks are not up to speed here. A bit more interest in sale units by start ups, but no money flowing yet. Seems like people around here are on a "nervous hold pattern". A lot of "I'm set to do 'this', if they do 'that' first", kind of thing.

We gotta keep this thread going. I'm very very curious as to how other companies around the country are doing.

One thing about this board that I wish we could do is to "pin" threads to the top.

I work for an Anheuser-Busch distributor and this is the first time we've had 2 positive months in a row for quite a while. We're also up for the year and I can't remember a time when that was the case (for the last couple years anyways).

so what freight company has picked up badlionsfan?

NEMF, but they still won't let us hire anyone cuz our corp office in NJ thinks it's "just a spike, not a trend."

We'll see I guess.

son does surveying and from what he's heard, they might be getting a big job with one of the power companies which will give them 12 months of work for an additional 15 crews of 3-4 if this goes through. the oil/gas side of our company keeps on getting work for upgrading equipment and the phosphate side doesn't seem to be slowing down although we're not getting overtime. i just hope work in general picks up so i can go back on the road again.

We're seeing an uptick here in StapleLand, but that might only be short-term "re-stocking" by customers rather than the beginning of economic recovery.

On the other hand, our neighbor across the street, a hi-tech machine shop and fabricator is going full-bore. Having said that, they never slowed down really.

We'll see. My crystal ball sez no real recovery until 1st quarter of '10.

I'm in the marketing research business, and while first quarter was slow, it wasn't dead slow. March and the second quarter have been very strong. Bid volume had dropped off the last two weeks, so we're nervous, but we are breathing easier than 4Q 2008.

Survived another round of layoffs, but the future is unsure. I'm creating a bailout plan for myself that involves teaching as many MSF classes as possible and other skills, plus walking away from the car payment, credit cards and mortgage and moving in with the mother-in-law. (Haven't told the wife or m-i-l that part, yet.)

I hope everyone is doing well. If you are, ADVERTISE with my newspaper so I can continue to bring you the news!

Our company is much busier than we were at this point last year. We had some layoffs in January, mostly some house cleaning, but ever since then I've been working 45-60 hours / week.

Let's keep the good news coming : )

We do tool & die work, mostly plastic injection molds. We've seen a LOT of quoting, but haven't landed a whole lot.

I have been seeing WAY more Buell parts for quotation in the past month than I have in the past 10 years.

The transport company I drive for has had a really flat 6 months or so but it seems to be picking up a bit now; this due however to other companies who have gone under or like one I know of just thrown in the towel. He couldn't see any light at the end of the tunnel so packed it in, 60 drivers out the door.
Now isn't a good time to be looking for a job around here.

It's all in French but you get the idea, mostly reefers but I work on the industrial freight side generally, haul car parts & bulk loads plus some distribution as well.

Group turnover exceeded $350 million last year. Still family owned too. It's about the biggest privately owned haulier in France.
