I have found a 99 x1 on craigslist here in lexington ky for $1000, the seller said that it needs a fuel pump, so does anyone know how much this would cost to fix. I also found an 06 sv650 for $2036 and the same bike in louisville for $2007 I sent the person am email about the sv and now the post is gone. Im looking for a cheap beginners bike for a friend and thought that an sv would be perfect so I looked on ebay and found the same exact bike in florida. Im sure there is some kind of scam going on here but i cant figure out the reason. I have heard of this but cant understand why they do it.

The 99 X1 sounds like a damn good deal, I don't know whats involved with replacing the fuel pump but it's definitely worth checking out. How many miles? Any pics?

I just checked out the craigslist ad for the X1. New tires, racing module, 6212 miles, someone needs to snatch that before the chopper guys do.

If you're looking for a beginner's bike, I would try the blast first to learn on.

An X1 is a lot of bike for someone new, and if you don't like wrenching, a Tuber isn't the way to go for a first bike...

No pics and the email address is pretty generic.

Has anyone emailed this guy and heard back?

Fuel pump should not be too a big deal, I wonder if it's too good to be true...

I did a fuel pump on my S3 shortly after I got it. I don't remember the price but It is an easy fix.

If it "smells" bad, trust your gut.

You can always email to ask if you can have a friend stop in to check it out. I have YET to have an ebay or craigslist seller get back to me and say "No Problem."

One time I bought a Honda vintage racebike on Ebay and the guy said SURE stop by, check it out... and it's in the garage and he threw in spare engine, single rail trailer. Cool guy.

Yeah, I emailed the guy too. He may get too many to respond too if we are all checking it out =]

I'm watching my spam mail to see if it rolls into there due to the email address.

Craig,

I know they aren't amazing but Suzuki GS500's are going for around the $2K mark in good shape out here. Not too much money and can be made to last as a starter bike by replacing the fork springs for better handling and a k&n makes a difference in power on these little bikes too.

Thanks guys the bike has been sold, as for the sv650 I called the guy on eBay and he said he knows nothing about the post in craigslist. The craigslist poster is lt.col. Chris conley , I recieved an email this morning, with a phone # 7012121354 which I believe is south Dakota. So if you all get a chance let's all call this guy and mess with him since he is clearly trying to scam people out of a deposit for the bike. Oh and I will tell my friend about the gs500. Thanks again.
