Anyone else recall getting dropped off at the ballpark on Saturday afternoon. . . buying a $2 bleacher seat and having the time of your life? Those days are gone . . .
Many tickets for tonight's game are in the thousands . . . and the New York paper carried a story today about the percentage of the stadium that is devoted to "exclusive" areas . . . there is, as an example, a Hard Rock Cafe' in the stadium. Used to be fun. I'm glad I made opening day (both of them) last year. I took a group of kids and it was the first time I'd been to Yankee Stadium. Fun stuff. I guess this goes in the file with the $2,220 window sticker from the new 1965 Mustang.  | ||

The first time I went to a Detroit Tiger's game was in April 1969. I drove my Suzuki 500, a cold ride, about 40 degrees that day. I'll never forget the brilliant green grass, the size of Tiger Stadium, and the play of Al Kaline in right field. What an experience! Cost all of 50 cents for a bleacher ticket. | ||

That's why I stick with minor league ball--old wooden bleachers, easy parking, cheap beer, practically free tickets, and few enough bodies in the stands that the players and umps absolutely hear your enthusiastic support and... er, constructive criticism. It's a great way to spend a summer afternoon. | ||

All the big market teams have high ticket prices like that. Sorry to hear you go to Yankee's games though. I can get a $10 ticket to a Rays game with the Sox come into town the day of the game. That's what they call a premium game. When the Sox, Yankees and Dodgers come to Tampa they jack the prices up a bit. Prices may go a little higher now that their no longer the laughing stock on the AL east. Gillette stadium where the Pats play has a section like that. I believe it's called the CBS Zone... | ||

The last time I went to a baseball game was four years when the Chicago White Sox played the Yankees. The ticket cost $50.00, I bought a hot dog and a coke, paid $8.00 for that and just really didn't enjoy spending so much to watch a baseball game. I love baseball but they have priced me out of going these days. I was a Bears season ticket holder for 16 years but when they went to the PSL's (personal seat license) in 2002, I dropped my four tickets! Not worth it anymore. I gave up on the Cubs years ago when Sammy Sosa was making over 10 million a year and he claimed that he didn't get any respect with his low pay scale. Bikerjim99, I think riding that Suzuki 500 would be more fun that watching a ballgame. I use to own a Suzuki 250 X6 Hustler and I always wanted a 500CC suzuki but never got one or even a chance to own one. I had to settle for the Kawasaki H1 500CC triple. | ||

My first MLB game was at Yankee Stadium in 1962. I thought I remembered that they had Berra in right field, but I just looked and be was an All-Star in '62, so that doesn't make sense. Funny that Mantle and Maris didn't make as big an impression on me. | ||

Professional sports became such a 'business' it has no appeal anymore. Don't think I've even watched a game in decades. I'd rather play a game than watch one. I do look forward to rooting for my nephew in a couple years when he'll likely play. It'll bring back the fun from childhood and make for a good time. Watching a game where you actually care about the players and have a stake in the game as it were. | ||

Court, The Yankees & Mets have been getting expensive for years, before I moved to Fla, I was going to more minor league games there, LI Ducks, Brooklyn Cyclones, Newark Bears. just as much fun...much cheaper. | ||

I remember when Royals Stadium (now Kauffman Stadium) was in its early days, my folks would drop me and my friends off for a game with a five dollar bill. Right field General admission was $1.50 and I could get something to eat and drink and have change left. Not sure what the going price is this year, but the sad thing is the product on the field back then was better than what they've put out there the last few years. | ||

If was colder than hell . . . we were sitting in the old Wolf Pack. It was Dad, Larry Reid, Tommy Anderson (See ORange Bowl 1969) and myself. Mom had Christmas dinner waiting for us when we were supposed to be home . . . . when we got home, like 7 hours later, things were icy. That was the last year the Chiefs played in Memorial Stadium, the next year they moved to Arrowhead. When I'd get teased, after moving to Southern Cal, about being from Kansas I used to rib them about playing football AND baseball in the SAME stadium . . . "how do you play football in a field designed for baseball?". Great times. | ||

Court, you just had to bring up that playoff game against the Dolphins, didn't you? As a young, rabid Chiefs fan I felt like I had been run through the wringer after that game. I've hated the Fins ever since. Nothing like those old Wolf Pack days. | ||

I used to go to Dodger games when I "had an inside line" for ticketing. When they went to computerized ticketing, my "in" retired... it's been nearly 20 years since I last went to one. I also stopped going to music concerts about the same time. It really gripes me to not be able to get a decent seat without going through a "ticket agency" or for a reasonable price. | ||

I keep wondering how the folks who have decided that $500,000 is the maximum salary for Wall Street will handle $20,000,000 baseball players. I never wanted to see a game end so bad as that Christmas day . . . man was it cold! | ||

Milwaukee Brewer games are anywhere from $8 to $48. When the Cubs or White Sox come to town they raise up to $15 to $80. Even Packer tickets aren't "outrageous". $59, $64 and $72 |
