In keeping with concerns about waste in Companies the Government has taken control of, and since Waggoner was fired at GM, the President has called for Chevrolet and Dodge to quit NASCAR:

Looks like they removed the original text. Check the referenced articles... I'll go and try to find the original - it was GREAT!

Part of the article from the Huffington Post:

quote:

In a move sure to spark outrage, the White House announced today that GM and Chrysler must cease participation in NASCAR at the end of the 2009 season if they hope to receive any additional financial aid from the government ... A complete withdrawal from America's premier racing series is expected to save more than $250 million between GM and Chrysler, a substantial amount considering the drastic measures being implemented elsewhere.

I know people are gonna cry "communism", but come on...it's the government's (OUR) money. They've got EVERY right to make decisions like this.

IMO the automakers have PROVEN they have zero ability to make financial decisions (COMPETITIVE financial decisions) for themselves. I sympathize for the labor-level folks, but the execs? Bag 'em. Refit the plants to make inexpensive steel housing pieces - siding, metal studs, beams. Let's get some housing that all these foreclosed folks can afford to live in, and start getting back on our feet.

Nah, didn't fix it...just expanded it a little.

Gimme my 44 acres of mountainside, the 1780s log cabin on it (I WILL make it habitable again, dammit!), my '72 Satellite, my wife, my dogs, and my Buells. I'm a happy camper : )

Well when the Mustang Ranch was seized by the government for back taxes they took it over and tried to run it....now think about this, prostitution and alcohol was on the menu and they managed to run it into the ground, if you cannot sell those two things in Nevada, I cannot trust them to run a car company....sorry no confidence in this deal.....

Yes that is the point...they had experience, probably first hand experience, and couldn't keep it running...maybe they "robbed" the products off the shelf??hmmmm......one too many sampler plates for the Distinguished Gentleman (and Hillary) at the ole mustang ranch that customers couldn't get in maybe...hmm...interesting idea...

Wow - the MudBug has a good point:

NA$CAR is a sport that should be favored by our current administration: Continue turning to the left at full throttle until you run out of fuel or crash... and at the end, the one who is called the "winner" finishes in exactly the same place he started.

I like it!
