Congrats on the new BMW, I also looked at those a few years back. Nice ride. Uses a Rotax engine if I recall.

Please point out the posts that were bad mouthing "other brands."

Sure.

Her coming here and proclaiming the "Buell done right" is really bad mouthing Buell.

I see you are new and you are unaware that for several years, since some tiff that didn't end to her liking, she's got out her way to shower Badweb with comments, for the most part untrue, about Buell and her Buell experience.

Recently she cited inside information that "Buell will cease to exist as will 50% of the HD dealers in the next 12 months". We've got 7 months remaining on that claim.

You are correct in that if you had said the same thing it would likely have gone unnoticed. She's a bit of a known "head case" and some of the folks who have known her for a while would indicate this is not restricted to just her Buell based rants.

If you get a moment you can go back and look and you'll find a myriad of such threads. These folks, clawing for attention, are often referred to as "trolls".

Frankly the BMW is a dandy bike. I've had a long association with the folks at BMW and they make a fine product. In fact the local dealer, who I bought my BMW from several years ago, is one of the finer in the country and I've looked closely at the F800, it's a dandy bike. If fact, so dandy that simply coming here and saying "I broke down and bought a BMW" would be a neat thing, it'd be well received and folks would cheer. For an example see the announcement my good friend and neighbor Steve made yesterday about buying his MV Agusta Bruatale.

The "bad mouthing" in this case is a result of attempting to use this to simply stoke the sicko things she's done in the past.

In all candor, after 22 years, of association with Buell, I harbor some joy and have my fingers crossed hoping she's gone from the Buell world. Like every group, Buell has it's normal distribution curve and there is always someone from just outside the left tail wanting to rant.

Great bike.

Good Riddance.

Well said, Court. Head games from this "head case", thinly veiling her bilous words as studied critiques along with dependable put-downs of Buell, have gotten stale.

You can either feed the troll, or throw rocks at it. (Metaphorically, of course.) ; )

I totally missed that. I thought (big mistake, thinking) you were referring to bad mouthing BMW.
Ahh ignorance is bliss.
Thanks for setting me straight.

I would never badmouth BMW. Be mindful that after I left Buell to move to NYC that most of what I did for the next year was with BMW and the good folks of BMW wanted me to join them at their HQ in New Jersey. Something in my heart would just not let me be a PR person for any company but Buell . . . I think the BMW's are great bikes, they are great people (my friend David Robb who you may recall from the Corvette Sting-Ray and Mercedes "S Class") was BMW Chief of Design and I've attended a number of intro launches with him.

The BMW is an elegant bike. Frankly, they kind of lost me with the styling for many of the current models, the GS and the F800 however I think are exquisite.

BMW is much like Buell too in the passion they instill in their owners.

Some of you have seen my Green S-2. When Mike and Erik were playing with the idea of a green bike they slapped the proto body work on mine and sent me from Kansas to the BMWMOA event in Asheville, NC just to park the bike and watch how folks reacted. That's where I attended my first BMW seminar on "evading law enforcement" and it served me well on the trip home.

I've bought BMW's and would again. And it's quite accurate that the dealer makes the difference. We happen to have a really good dealer, perhaps one of the best in the country, in our area, MikeyP (I think) bought his Ducati 1098 from them and I am not above buying a Hypermotard . . .which I know is a totally impractical bike but would allow me to grasp one more fleeting moment of youth. : )

The gal touting all this "Buell done right" crap has never walked Buell and see all the awards from around the world. Be mindful that MOST of Buells awards are not from motorcycle firms but from design groups. Buell has also done things that no other manufacturer (car or motorcycle has done). One of these happens to be a "website" . . . bear in mind when Buell launched it's website that no manufacturer of wheeled vehicles . . .Ford, Chevy, BMW, John Deers or Radio Flyer had ever dreamed of a website. This innovation continues to this day . . . if you could see Elvis you'd be impressed. . . . at least Buell's Japanese competitor who toured East Troy was . . . to loosely quote "it is impossible to do this using human beings". That may be true, but you can do it with Elves. Buells quality numbers now lead the industry and are superior to anything HD has ever done. But . . , BMW is right up there.

: )

By the way . . . . if it weren't for BMW North America . . . there may never have been an S-1. Read the book.

I've sold Buells, I now sell BMW's (& Ducati & Triumph & MV).

Buells & BMW's....Apples & Oranges, both good fruits. The only 2 models that compare are the Uly & R1200GS, you couldn't go wrong buying either.

The only BMW I've ridden was the then new R1200S in 2007, and I loved that bike. If it weren't for the price tag, I very likely may have gotten one.

I don't see it on the website anymore - too bad. I hope they're still making that model.

Great bike.

Good Riddance.

Having never ridden an F800, I can only support one of those statements.

I used to love Jaques Cousteau and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

Grew up and kept nice fish in a large freshwater aquarium. Once had a 5YO peach severum and a 6YO chocolate cichlid.

In college, with roomies, I kept an albino tiger oscar big enough to pet.

I once had smart fish.

Saltwater fish are generally smarter. Never sprung the $$$ to keep them up, but love to look at them.

Something in this thread smells like dead fish or an unkempt aquarium.

I have an old 2000 BMW 1100RT (that I rode today incidentally) and an X1. Two different bikes, two purposes, two ways to be happy. As far as dealers go, the Buell dealers out here are fantastic.

My X1 REWELS!

BMW rider was at the local dealer last week...
Easy to spot, they had real riding gear on....

He said he came in to look at the V-Rod but saw the 1125R.... He later joined COBRA... this is what he had to say..

I am interested in joining the club. I ended up buying a 1125R at the local Columbus HD dealer after talking to Mark Gainer on Friday 3/27. I'll pick it up later in April. I currently ride a yellow checkered taxi colored BMW K1200RS, with more than a few miles on it. I'm looking forward to learning how to ride the Buell and get some track time with it. I have not been on the track yet with a motorcycle, but did get to ride down the landing strip for the space shuttle in Florida. Not many twisties there.

Now, let me tell ya... I went outside and looked at his BMW.... it had over 168,0000 on the clock....Clicks that is or in other words... over 104,000 miles...
He is gonna fit right in with us fo sho!

"Marlin Perkins here for Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom circling the Serrengeti in the helicopter and.. OH OH! Looks like Jim managed to startle that Cape Buffalo....Uh Jim looks a little trampled, but i'm sure he will be alright....."

My mom and I used to tune in every week just to see what animal would get to have it's way with Jim.

Court & company: Calling someone a "nutcase" because they were honest about Buell's problems and you disagree with their politics is not an effective way to sell them another Buell. Buell makes a competitive product that even has some advantages over the competition. But two things are chasing mainstream buyers away from Buell. The first is the dealers, and most of us agree even the best are just "OK". The second is the blowhard bullies that afflict BadWeb- one read of this site and a lot of motorcyclists are going to cross Buell off their shopping lists. Suffice to say, this site is one of the reasons I bought a BMW instead of another Buell this time.

BTW, my M2L is not for sale- It's going to my winter home in Florida.

F800S. It's basicly a Buell done right- smooth engine, ABS brakes, hard bags available, belt drive designed for easy replacement, etc.. I'd shopped all the Buell dealers for miles around but nobody would knock anything off of MSRP on an XB9 and they added the usual markups for freight and prep, etc.. Found a few leftover XB12s slightly marked down, but still no cheaper than the F800S. The BMW was discounted about 15%, so even with ABS it was about the same price as an XB9SX.

A big factor in my choice to go with BMW was the dealer. The XB is a much improved product, although the design is getting long in the tooth. But the best of the Buell dealers within 100 miles of me would rate only a C on parts and service, while there are two BMW dealers within 100 miles that easily rate an A. When it came to price, the F800S lists for over $2000 more than an XB9SX. But the Buell/HD dealers are still demanding list price plus hefty markups for shipping and PDI. BMW is offering a $750 incentive on the 800S and the dealer discounted the bike around $1000 and doesn't charge for PDI.

So with the Buell and BMW selling for essentually the same price, BMW's better dealers, ABS, hard bag and sidestand availability, etc. beat anything Buell had to offer.

Court & company: Calling someone a "nutcase" because they were honest about Buell's problems and you disagree with their politics is not an effective way to sell them another Buell. Buell makes a competitive product that even has some advantages over the competition. But two things are chasing mainstream buyers away from Buell. BTW, my M2L is not for sale- It's going to my winter home in Florida.

To start the BMW off on the right foot (don't want to spoil her with a pickup ride home), I rode her home 100 miles in a 45 degree rain.

First and foremost, enjoy your new motorcycle, may it give you the years of joy and reliability you would expect.

Now moving on, it is funny (sad?) how you invite conflict and then whine when you get what you ask for?!?

"It's a Buell done right". No it is not, that is why the badge says BMW and not Buell.

You couldn't find a Buell below msrp and the BMW was discounted 15%? That means either you are a lousy negotiator or BMW is having trouble moving the F800's.
Methinks the former applies more than the latter.

Smooth engine, ABS, Hardbags....
Exactly why were you shopping for a Buell in the first place? And last time I checked there are hard bag options either OEM of aftermarket (depending on model) for over 90% of the XB line.

Sorry to hear about your lack of satisfactory dealers in your area, but please do not lump the rest of this board in with your assertions, I happen to think the dealership I purchased from is THE BEST dealership of any brand I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with and have seen plenty of postings from other badwebbers to suggest that such an experience is not limited to only my neck of the woods.

Sidestand?!? uh, yeah let's move on shall we....

Last time I checked his profile, "Ring Leader" was not in Court's list of accomplishments as "Lackey" was not listed in mine so please refrain from lumping me in with your "insurgents" and I will be polite enough not to dismiss you with an F off.

By your own posts, it is plain that you do not get anything but grief from anything associated with the name Buell, so why punish yourself and why on a Buell forum of all places? A large majority of the posters here probably think me the fool for even bothering to reply to you (and good money says they are correct) but I always like to exhaust all acts of diplomacy before taking the cruder highway of my travels.

As I said before, enjoy your new motorcycle, please leave us to enjoy ours.
