ok i figured i would open up for some opinions from people behind keyboards. ill make it a quick run down

so i bought a fast car, now all the sudden a mutual friend of friends that lives near me can tune them, so i see some of his past work and have my car tuned, using hp tuners on an LS1 engine. car runs great........problem is

this kid is hated for his social skills among other car people in the area, now from me just hangin around him a bit they already think we are best friends....the kid is very very smart when it comes to building and tuning new engines. but now i have the same rep as he does when i havent even met these people or just barely conversate with them in another forum.

there are no other tuners in the area....what to do........i dont want a bad rep from the other group for no reason..granted they are all very immature and gossip kings and queens. im stuck in the middle and i dont like it! and politely telling anyone off still has the effect as telling them off.

ok did that make any sense to anyone lol

You need new friends, and not middle schoolers.

Sounds to me this kid needs a friend more than those other folks do anyway.

If you really think it's worth worrying about though, pm me with your specific concerns.
My Dad always meant to start a professional worrying service, I'm thinking about doing it part time on the side. For a small fee, I'll take care of it, you can just relax and enjoy your car and new friend. Worrying is hard on a body but I guess somebody has to do it.

from what i hear my tuner buddy has burnt every bridge in the whole shabang. i jumped into the car scene just this year and these other people have known each other for years....so they all have histories and grudges with each other. its like ive been thrown in the middle of the battle field to be used as a decoy for both sides........one thing that will not happen is be made out to be stupid

somebodies feeling are gonna get hurt i can feel it, and they wont be mine

Honestly guys......bad web is the shit! i always get answers and you guys always make sense.

Good tuners are hard to find, if he's a mate, all the better.

I've had the "you can't be my friend if you're his friend" thing thrown at me before, it's a no brainer.

I reply that whether they like it or not he's my friend, if they feel they can no longer be my friend that's THEIR choice to make. The ones with some brain think about it & generally we all end up getting along, The ones that choose otherwise, it's no loss, I don't need those kind of people.

Sorry, there’s no way around it. One of the reasons I lost my faith in the ‘car scene’ was that there was always drama. Not competition, just drama. I pulled an AOD out of an 89 Mustang 5.0 (42k and literally purchased the car from an old lady) and converted it to stick. I sold the transmission to a local guy who put it in his car. In the process, he never made sure the torque convertor was fully seated into the pump and broke the front pump. He came over my house and demanded his money back. I checked out the transmission and told him to pound salt because the pump wasn’t cracked when I gave it to him. Another guy around the same time bought a Tremec T5 from me and came back a year later to intimidate me because he broke it in a third gear burnout… It’s hard to avoid the drama. Hang out with whom you want to hang out with, do what you want to do, but in the process, hold yourself to the highest ethical standards. If you like the guy, who cares? I’ve recently found some more mature friends who enjoy cars for the sake of enjoying cars and aren’t into the racing. Sounds like that may be more your style.

In the process, I gained the reputation of selling bad parts locally because of these guys abusing their cars or not knowing what they were doing. In the process, I gained insight that helped me find out who I can trust. A tarnished reputation through no fault of my own was well worth finding out what these guys were worth. Ask guys like Wolfridgerider, Mike F5000, Neverenf, and they'll tell you I'm always willing to help out.

Some of the best analytical minds have poor social skills...if what you are after is a good job of getting your ride tuned...who could give a rat's banana who does it...if it works, it works...I wouldn't worry about it unless the guy is truly a freak...and deserves to be held at arm's lenght.

I have 2 buddies that used to be very good friends with each other and they both are good friends with me. Well many years ago one slept with the other one's wife behind his back and, as you guessed it, are no longer friends. Now the one who's wife cheated on him hates my buddy but he is still my friend and I explained it to the cheated one like this. Although what he did was a very thing and I don't agree with it at all, he still hasn't screwed me over and for that I have no reason not to be friends with him.

I told the cheated one that I would understand if he was pissed at me but what is between them has nothing to do with me so I should be left out of it. He understood completely once I explained it like that. To this day both of them are still very good friends with me, although one of them I would never bring my girl around. : )

lesson learned.

Yup, these guys are right. If someone don't like you because you spoke to another person they don't like, screw em! I talk to who I want, when I want. If someone don't like who I talk to, I don't care. No sweat off my back.

I did Corvette shows in the early nineties. It was difficult breaking into the "crowd". After watching one of the judges in my class give his own car the prize for the class I saw just how small these kind of people can be. I thought my car should have been second in class and another guy's car was way ahead of both of ours, but the guy took the win and the $150.00 based on his own judging.

If you really intend to stick with the car guys go race somewhere. Drag race, oval track, road course, what ever. Those people at the grass roots level are usually quite real. They are showing what they really are in every race. Bench racing, car hops, and weekend shows, to me, are a place for wannabes.

If you think the chevy guys are clannish don't even consider a Mopar. All my cars (mustang, fairlane and cobra) have been Fords.

Seriously though you need to base your opinion of the guy based solely upon what you observe. Screw everyone else's opinion.

People with difficult "user interface" may just be brilliant or may be a$$hats.

You've apparently found the brilliant kind.

Just let your friends figure that out over time and don't worry about it.
