My daughter lives in an apartment over my office. My grandson has a small four wheeler he rides around here on.
This morning my daughter called me and said "Dad! Look outside and see if the four wheeler is there"
I looked, "Nope"
She said "I'm following it down the road (as she named off distinguishing characteristics). It's in the back of a truck, the truck is pulling a trailer HEY! It's YOUR trailer!"
I took off in that direction, and told her to call 911. I knew she wouldn't be able to call me back, and after three miles I stopped at an intersection and waited.
After forever few minutes she called me back. "They are under I-75,(just around the corner from the Harley/Buell store) three police officers with guns drawn surrounding the truck"
Because the call originated on the border road of the city and county, both forces were well represented.
I wonder what those guys were thinking. It had to be a depressing moment. Lots of blue lights.
The officers were having a great time with the whole thing. Two separate thefts at the same time. I know that has to be so much better than filling out a report, knowing they will never find the stuff or the crooks. My shop is in the city, so the city police made the arrest.
The yahoos went to jail, I just hauled back his four wheeler on my trailer. The police got two guys, at least one of which had an outstanding warrant. My younger, four year old, grandson got to be late to school and see a great show and even got a Junior Deputy Badge out of the deal.
I got behind in work, but still think we made progress, should be two bums out of business for a while.
A very fine morning.
Rotzaruck!

Good story, glad you got your stuff back. It's a shame people are so dishonest.

OT: Cant believe I've lived here almost two years and we haven't met up yet.

Always nice to hear a story with a happy ending. Last kid I tried to give a baseball card and badge sticker to flipped me off.

Too often that story ends with nobody caught and nothing found. Great nab...

Now to bad you didn't have video camera. You could've submitted that to cops...

That reminds me of the identify theft story of mine. Long story short....

We get a call from a jewlrey store in TX (I live in FL) they talk to my wife and want to know if her husband is in Dallas buying a 10,000 diamond ring and opening a new credit account. Wife says, he damn well better be at work and not buying a ring for some floozy. Store tells "me" that it takes about 1/2 to get credit approved so "I" leave to wander the mall while waiting for credit approval....store calls cops, cops come and wait in the back for "me"....."I" never show back up. Cop walks to other stores in mall to see if any other stores had sold "me" stuff on credit. Sure enough, "I" bought a computer and big screen TV at Radio Shack. Cop thinks back and remembers seeing a big screeen TV being loaded into a car in the mall parking lot as he arrived. He reviews on dash camera footage and gets plates of "my" car. Later that day "I" get a visit from the cops and get hauled off to jail. It was great that the cop was obserant enough to remember the TV and took the extra effort to check the other stores in the mall.

The real me didn't keep up with the story of my alter ego after that so I don't know how things worked out. I was too busy trying to clean up my credit report and close all the accounts I opened in the Dallas area.

"could we get a picture of the Junior Deputy badge?"

Sure! And the Junior Deputy too.

My daughter talked to the man who rents a building from us and is open later. He said three guys came in and told him they had bought some stuff from the people in the back, and wanted to go get it. He told them no, nobody was there and they couldn't go back there. He described our two.
They went later I guess.
What gets me is why they were driving down the road about a mile away this morning, with the stuff so obvious? They told the police they bought it from a guy, there may be more to it. Either way, they fouled up and got caught.
How have they stayed out of jail or the morgue this long?

And the sad thing is they will probably get off or out very soon. Part of my job is to maintain the audio systems in about 35 court rooms...I see these scum bags get off all the time with a slap of the wrist.

+1!

Great to hear about good guys winning, plus the bonus experience your grandkid had!

That cop deserves a box of local-made donuts and a gift certificate for a good dinner to boot!
