I've been free of the Monkey Suit for a few years now. Changes in various aspects of work dictate that I once again appear "Professional" (a professional what?).

For those who commute on a bike, how does one manage a business suit, fresh looking shirt, tie, and shoes while still wearing gear?

Dude

Aerostich, or similar gear, will do nicely for all of it 'cept the shoes . . . . travel stores are great for stuff you can wear under loose riding gear without looking like you spent the night dumpster diving with Court and Road_Thang . . . I keep a pair of shoes in my desk at work . . ..

I commute on my XB9R, but I don't have to wear a suit (business casual). Still, even if I did, I would still do like I do now: I wear my riding pants and jacket over my clothes, and take a backpack for my shoes, lunch, etc. Once I arrive, the only problem is fixing the "helmet hair"! :-)
Of course, now a days, I have less and less hair to worry about...!!

I'm ordering some custom boots from http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/. They have one that would probably look good with a suit even. I don't like to have to change shoes when I get to work. I've worn my Danner paratrooper boots almost every day for the past 4 years.

I love it when strippers ride their bikes to work in business attire...

I keep a sport jacket, ties and shoes at work. White shirts keep the mismatch to a minimum. I have been daily Monkey Suit free person for about 3 years. Twice a month I have to appear in court.

Saro,

Until a few years ago, I too had to dress up at work. My solution was to buy a dark (or any neutral color would do) sport coat, and leave it and a pair of shoes at work. Change your daily "look" with different colored pants, shirt and tie combinations (if that kind of shit matters to you).

My ride to work is about 1 hour at 65+ mph in heavy, crazy urban traffic, so I always wear protective Cordura suit. In general, my dress pants/shirt would be too wrinkled upon arrival to work, although synthetic pants and medium starch shirt sometimes would survive. Therefore, I'd wear comfy clothes under Cordura suit and transport carefully folded pants/shirt/tie in either tank bag or backpack depending on what bike I rode that day. Then dress at work and look "fresh", undress to go home (to save pants for another day). Avoid white shirts, road grime will always win.....and of course, you know the curse of of helmet head.

In general, a pain in the ass, but it worked.

I used to drive my truck to work and bring a weeks supply of business attire (shirts, ties, trousers, shoes). I'd change into them when I rode the bike to work. I tried to coordinate it so I could always ride to work on mondays and fridays. It made the beginning and ending of the weekend so much better.

Your dudeness,

I have tried to ride with business attire a couple of times. I hate it. The only proper riding clothes I have are my Vansons. I use my cage for business and my scoot for scooting. I guess if you have a place to change, that might be an option.

Don't skimp on protection for convenience sake.

Second the 'stich...I ride as much as possible with slacks, shirt and tie under the 'stich...Either keep a coat at the orifice along with dress shoes or throw the coat in the top box or saddle bag...This is also the reason I chose a one piece Roadcrafter rather than a two piece or Darien or such...My admin asst likes to say "Bond, James Bond" and one of these days I'm going to wear the tux just to please her...Hey, this is the way you put 30k or more a year on!!!...Now, if only I could take 30lb off...

See Ya!

Wesco Boots...I've worn Highliners for work and recreation over the past 30 years. I've had at least 3 pairs rebuilt. Hopefully, I'll never have to buy another pair for work...all in all, a good investment for my feet.

You could always buy one of those BMW scooter with a roof things, and wear the suit. Or jack the job for something where you can wear what you like, such as entertainment director of a nudist colony or something.
