Could somebody please describe to me exactly how you do a proper wheelie while already rolling? I mean, I suppose I could just drop a gear and rev her up then dump the clutch and get it done, but is that "right"? I would rather not loop it... I have done wheelies before but usually small ones on accident and I want to learn how to do the smooth beautiful long ones Buells are famous for. Please be specific anyone who answers me with what gear, rpm, etc. to get me started. Thanks! (Keep in mind I'm on a bone stock 2001 Cyclone).

Foot on it ready to bring you back down... Be gentle though. I don't tend to wheelie much (and I have an XB12... Go figure) so I'm no expert, but I think the important thing is to not let the bike get ahead of you. Start small.

I believe that Keith Code conducts a school on how to do wheelies. They provide the bikes too. May be a good investment for you. Why not learn the right way with other's equipment. I'm sure you don't want to trash your bike.

Just be barely rolling, maybe 5, let off to compress the front and gas it. Once up, back off the throttle till you feel it coming down and gas it again. My problem is I'm normally chicken can't catch 2nd then hit the red line so it pounds the front end. A small incline helps. Find somewhere with no sand or gravel, nobody watching and a cop won't be and practice. But take a cell phone for a worst case senario just in case. Really it's best to get the feel for it on a dirt bike, or as suggested Kieth Code.

From a dead stop take off at a steady acceleration and when you hit around 20mph whack the throttle wide open and befor you know it you will be starring at the clouds. As for actually riding them out it just takes practice and and some nerve. Don't forget to where your Gear!

Wheelies are easy on Buells. I've done the longest wheelies of my life on my Cyclone. The key is throttle control and balance.

But..., I could never forgive myself if I didn't tell you that I learned and practiced them for years on dirtbikes. The consequences of a mistake on the street are dire, not only for your health, but for the safey to those around you and your driving record too.

If you want to learn how to wheelie, do yourself a favor - get a dirtbike and learn offroad.

My 2 cents.

www.oneonewheel.com cycle world did a review of this one day school located in your neighborhood. its 500 bucks for one day, they provide the bike. sounds like a sweet deal to me. check it out.

There is but one way, in my personal opinion, to learn to do a fun (there are degrees of "quality"...all I want from a wheelie is FUN) wheelie.

Buy KLR on e-bay or some similar torquey bike that, in the event you dump it on your ass, it is of minor consequence.

Dress properly soin the event you dump it on your ass, it is of minor consequence.

Go to a safe place in the event you dump it on your ass, it is of minor consequence.


And know that when you start to get it, you won't be able to stop. Once I learned, I found myself riding up 2nd Avenue in Manhattan, through the tunnels and on the Brooklyn Bridge. I was a very bad boy. It's VERY addictive.

Learn on a bike you CARE about at your own peril.

10-4 Court! lol I cant afford a KLR right now, or a $500 day of school either (I have a baby) but I really really love my M2 and I dont want to hurt her either. Or me. But mostly her... I had dirtbikes as a kid, but never really developed my wheelie skills. I guess I will just have to not let myself do anything stupid. Thank you everybody for the advise and the links, I really appreciate it.
