Soon I will be going to the sand box for my final time. My wife told me that I could have a new bike when I get back and it be which ever bike I want. So I have been sitting here trying for a few hours now to figure out what bike it should be. I know it will be another Buell but aside form that I can't figure out which one I should get.

First thought Is to go with a 1125 (either one would satisfy this hunger). I would have the top of the line pure sport bike that will give me a stiffy every time I ride it. Then I think about the fact that my wife would hate riding on the back of it for long periods of time and then I think about my next choice.

Second thought is one of the Ulysses. It would be a bike that has the sportiness but my and the with could throw some cloths in the bags and ride off to the edge of the earth and back and not hate life afterwards because of the egros. Plus If I get the regular x I could satisfy my hunger of wanting to go play in the dirty stuff. Then I think about the fact that I don't really like the way they look so much. Then I star thinking about my next choice.

Third choice has no rational thought process to it other than they look so super sexy with the blacked out frame, engine and forks. I love the cherry bomb body work. It would be the XB12ss. So naked, so sexy, so mean looking. I kinda rule this bike out as a choice though once my rational side comes back out because I would just end up with 2 naked mean bikes and I want my second bike to give me something much more than just a little bit of looks and handling.

So now I will return to trying to figure out what bike I should get.

Don't forget in ~4 months there may be some new models to choose from.

I think you should start small and work your way up to an 1125

My dream bike would be a Ulybolt. I wish Buell made one. Best of both worlds IMHO. I might settle for an 1125R though. Someday I will ride one and find out. I think that is the only way to really know what you want.

How about the XT? It has all the bags without the Uly look.

Get the Uly! It does everything at the sacrifice of nothing. Sporty and comfortable, unique and reliable, handles and cruises, shreds and tours! Ya can't go wrong.

The Uly is the Swiss army knife of bikes. It will provide fantastic touring comfort, great sport capabilities, and good off-road capabilities.

The problem is that it isn't a dagger in any of those categories. It lacks the wind protection of a true sport touring bike (and looks awful with barn doors attached). It is really tall and therefore isn't as sporting as an S,R, or 1125. It's also a large bike to throw around in the mud/dirt.

I bought my Uly with ideas of riding long distances with my wife. We never took anything more than a put put around town.

I found that I liked sport riding more than touring. I want a bike that is more sporting next go around. I would also like one that is a little easier for track duty. The Uly will do it but it's not nearly as flickable as an R, S, or 1125.

My advice is pick the pick that represents 90% of the type of riding you plan to do and either don't do one of the other types or get a dedicated "dagger".

From what you have described, though, the Uly sounds like the ticket.

The Uly can do it all.
I found that the looks of it are improved greatly with mud and bugsplat.

I say you should get two bikes since one can rarely satisfy every need.

well I don't have a hole lot of debt and the little bit I do have is helping me build my credit so when I get back I will have the money and I really want a bike that I can just jump on and ride were as my m2 it is not always the case. She is an mean old bitty and has the habbit of doing random weird stuff when I ride her hard. Like just now I was riding and my spark plug from the rear cylinder some how shot out and hit me in my leg.

1125r.

It does everything my cityX did, only better. I loved my cityX, but I haven't missed it once since I traded it in.

I love my M2 as well & the only XB platform that floated my boat was the TT, so you'll have to make do with a XT & take the bags off! lol.

Mr. grumpy, Check out the specs for the 08 TT and compare them to the 09 Ss.

All you need to do to make them the "same" is put the 08 handle bars and seat on the 09

and the number plates.....

Hey man, I'm kinda in the same boat. I'll be hitting the sand again myself at the end of the year. I already have a XB9s but I'm contemplating getting an XT when I get home. The problem is that I've fallen in love with the triumph scrambler. Ahhh, choices....

I have no advice. I do think all the buells are kick ass bikes but regardless what you choose you'll have that little nagging feeling of regret that you didn't get the other one. There is no wrong answer.
Good luck.

I love my 12Ss more than any bike I have ever owned but if I had been able to hold out 2 more years before my purchase, there would be a XT in my garage right now. Damn hard lockable luggage! Once you had them it's hard to do without them.

I got the bodywork from my dealer.

Due to differences with the electricals in the Uly vs SS/STT, its not a simple swap. Everything will bolt up nice and easy.

The Uly requires longer wiring for the turn signals / tag light, and a totally different connector on the Uly. Also the fuse box is positioned differently.

well I have a quick connector on my tail light and blinkers on my m2 so I am thinking that I could do some thing to this effect in order to switch things out for the long trip stuff.

dang you guys ya'll have my mind going 100 mph trying to think up a way come out with a bike to do what I want it to do.

I have been reading every thing I can and looking at all kinds of pictures on here try to figure out how to make a xb12ss be a convertable bike to were I can make a simple swap back and forth from a uly tail to a lightning tail.

I love the way the lightnings look but I would love to have the passenger comfort and bags of the uly when me and the wife want to hit the road for a weekend gettaway or something.

It would mostly be in the lightning configuration except those times me and my wife go do things like that.

Just get the Uly. It handles like a dream, is extremely comfortable for both you and your wife, and the bags are big enough to house an entire family of Illegal Immigrants. The looks will grow on you, until one day, you'll realize that it really is more beautiful than the Lightning. Trust me on this one.
