I've got a car for sale & put free ads up on various websites, I've had all the usual scammers emails, you know the ones, I'm away on business,or it's for my son who's at university in your country, etc etc

Well I just got this one & it takes the biscuit. Enjoy.

Hello,I want to inform you that i will buy your car but i have a business proposal for you.

I am a captain with the United Nations troop in Iraq,on war against terrorism.Based on the United States legislative and executive decision for withdrawing troops from iraq come this year,i have been deployed to come and work in your country's military base soonest.

Our mission is to help beef up terrorist targeted states, mostly the United states and the European Union on the war against terrorism.I will need a car for myself and that is why i contacted you.

On the other hand i want to inform you that I have in my possession the sum of 13.6million USD. which was recovered from one of our raids on terrorists here in Iraq because they keep most of their money at home for evil activities which they normally get through illegal deals on crude oil.

Based on the suffering we undergo here some of us do meet such luck.It happened that i went for this raid with the men in my unit and i decided to take it as my share for my stress here in this evil land filled with suicide bombers.
I deposited this money with a red cross agent informing him that we are making contact for the real owner of the money. It is under my power to approve whoever comes forth for this money.

Where i have a problem is how to invest this money in Europe on stocks and real estate.I cannot move this money to the United states because i will be in Europe for about 3years and will want to invest it there with my wife who will be relocating with me,so i need someone i could trust..

If you accept,i will transfer the money to Europe where you will be the beneficiary because i am a uniformed person and i cannot be parading such an amount so i need to present someone as the beneficiary.I am an American and an intelligence officer for that so i have a 100% authentic means of transferring the money through diplomatic courier service .I just need your acceptance and all is done.

Please if you are interested in this transaction i will give to you the complete details you need for us to carry out this transaction successfully.I decided to find someone that is real and not imaginary and that is why i went to a secured car site where i can be sure that the person is real.

I believe i can trust you. where we are now we can only communicate through our military communication facilities which is secured so nobody can monitor our discussions, then i can explain in details to you.I will only reach you through email, because our calls might be monitored,I just have to be sure whom i am dealing with.

If you are interested please send me your personal mobile number so i can call you for further inquiries when i am out of our military network.I am writing from a fresh email account so if you are not interested do not reply to this email and please delete this message,if no response after 3days i will then search for someone else.

I am doing this on trust, you should understand and you should know that as a trained military expert i will always play safe in case you are the bad type, but i pray you are not.13.6million USD is a lot of money which is the dream of anyone.

I wait for your contact details so we can go on.In less than 7days the money should have been noted on your account then you take the money for your car and i when i come over for my money.I will give to you 30% of the sum and 70% is for me.I hope i am been fair on this deal.

Regards,
Capt. paul

Well, the Ford is probably in real good shape. Too bad I sold the 2001 Contour that my kids were driving, I could have tried a deal with him.

That really makes me want to give them my ex-wife's phone number.

(Insert your most favorite imaginary accent) "I can assure you I am an upright individual!!"

I'm sorry, but there must be a lot of really slow people in this world...the sad reality is with bulk E-mail...eventually they find someone they can get to buy into it.

OR....as P.T. Barnum said...there's a sucker born every minute....or more accurately...give 'em what they want.

My favorite "stupid is as stupid does" scam (attempt) goes like this...(I have not only had the e-mails, but also gotten phone calls)...Person calls or sends a message that they want to buy (in my case) several ice machines...LARGE/EXPENSIVE ice machines...they are always from the oddest places...usually VERY far away, where the shipping and import/export duties exceed the value of the equipment...or in a couple of cases, places that you can't even export to period ; )...the key is...they will handle the shipping and have their shipper PICK UP the machines so we don't have to be bothered with the red tape; )....and they say they will pay with a credit card....(they will be in cahoots with a banker in some (insert favorite 3rd world country)...if you buy into it, the card will appear to have cleared, the "shipping company" will be at the warehouse and have the equipment picked up and gone before the hammer drops and the "funds" disappear...

The first time I saw this happen was when WE were approached...it sounded fishy and I investigated it, and became very sure it was a scam...I went to our Owner about it...who in spite of my warning was drooling over a 58K equipment sale...at that point I told the Owner that "I" was done with it, and if he wanted to do it...to do it himself.

After he made a couple of calls, he backed off...two days later, he found out that another company had taken the bait, and was out even more money....the equipment ended up somewhere in the middle of a vast sand wasteland ; )....

Our business account gets about a half dozen of these variations on the Nigerian scam every day. Sophisticated websites sometimes, with nice logos and pictures, operated by a couple of tea boys in Pakistan or Mali. Used to deal with a title company owner who lost $400K of escrowed funds to some African genius. Her husband did the jail time and she was disbarred. The new "grant money from the gummint" since B.O. got elected is the rage domestically. There are very few free lunches, and most of them have a price.

I have been there, and there is NO WAY he would put out on the internet that he is in posession of this money. Every email is subject to screening when it is sent and he would not risk his own ass to send you an email

Here is a would be scam recently attempted on my wife’s friends.
“I really need help, please send me money quickly.” - Signed w/ wife’s first name
Some of her friends attempted to do something, some got indignant & a few rumors were floated concerning me (arguably flattering ones).

I had a copy sent to my work P/C that has anti-everything protection.

Here is how the scam worked

Wife’s e-mail is - first_name##@stny.rr.com
e-mail address of scam was - first_name##@yahoo.com

(Must a got a copy of the e-mails that float between women, some inspirational, some political but most ridiculing guys.)

Replied to the scam - “Just got this – How much money do you need – Where do I send it”

Got reply - “$1500 would be fine” – “Send Western Union to Nue XXX, Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam”

After awhile got another e-mail - “When are you going to send the money?”
I replied words to the effect - “How stupid do you think I am? But I wish you well.”
Got a final reply - “I don’t like this anymore than you do but I need money. – Best wishes.”}

I was back in DC on biddness last year and there was a phishing scammer who was in jail and as part of his sentence, he was giving interviews on a series being written on internet scams.

He was saying that he only needed one hit in about 250,000 emails to make it worth his while. The underground phishing/spamming network gets validated emails for only a few bucks per thousand confirmed emails. Realize when you have responded angrily to a phishing email, all you succeeded in doing was validating your email address. Hell, if you think people are stupid who send money, how about those who RESPOND with a pissed off email?

We have no shortage of idiots.
