In September I bought my first bike an 2003 orange Buell blast. I was so excited to drive it I took it out before even registering it. I was out in the country going 60-70 and had just shifted in to fifth gear for the first time and the crank twisted in two. That was the end of that…I compared the prices of the options I had to fix the problem and the cheapest I could come up with was to buy a used motor and replace the dead one with it.

I finally got a new motor, but before way back in September me and a friend pulled the old one out, the only way we could get the motor all the way out was to take off the rear wheel and the fuel tank and some other minor things. But when I took it in to a private mechanic to put it back together for me he turned down the job because he wasn't familiar enough with the bike, and he had thought he would just need to plug the new motor in and fill it with oil.

So now I need a Buell person to help me put it back together. I’m located in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and wouldn't want to travel much more than 40 miles, but I’m willing to compensate accordingly. No super rush either I just want it back together so I can get back on the road. I don’t think it would be a very major thing for someone with the right tools and know how.

Please leave a post if you think you could help me...thanks

I'd give you a hand, but swapping out motors is a bit out of my league. Sorry and good luck. Try posting a subject line that states something like "Southern WI Motor Swap Help". You may get the right people to see your thread easier.

The intimidating part of an engine change on a Blast is that in reality, you remove the bike from the engine...LOL!!! It's not HARD to do....just a bit....unusual....and you need a good tool kit....

A good tip is to take a lot of pictures before you rip it apart...AND have a manual handy...take your time and double verify every step...use plenty of locktite and a torque wrench of the appropriate size.

Good luck Sam...It sux to have your FIRST bike take a dump the first time you ride it...trust me, a Blast is a damn fine first bike...enjoy it..learn to ride it, and go shred some 250 Ninja's.

I'm 35 miles from Fontana, about 55 minutes. I could swing by on a warm Saturday to point and laugh. I've never swapped out a Buell engine. But I could still look at it with you, if you have Ice water over there. If you get the manual, I'll look at the pictures and you read the story.

Here is a pic from one of Bluzm2's posts, Let's do this to it.

I seem to remember..as i was a young man,my father taught me engine mechanics.

If he's around, can you lean on your pop?

As you're a young man,you must've gotten the bug from BLOOD.

I remember POP was always the first one to NAIL my virgin engines'

OOHHHHH the warm feelings.

I can re-machine pistons to fit NOW

Get the parts AND service manuals from Buell

Check on the thumper forum with EZ Blast, Gearheadericko and Swampy. They can give you detailed instructions on how to do just about anything.

Don't ask how I know

He needs help! It won't take that long to put back together. When it is done you will get a warm fuzzy feeling.

We sent him over here to find somebody close by him to help him out. I told him I would do it but my garage is being held for ransom.

Rainman, remember where I met up with you last summer? I am hiding out about a mile east of there.

Another thing I can do for you, is go out to Hals, and take pics of all the wire and oil line routing for you.

Hey Swampy, what you doing in Okemos? I was just up there last weekend for a quick trip to my niece's wedding (up friday, wedding saturday, home sunday). They had to move it up because my older bro is being shipped to the Rockpile. 53-year-old reservist with less than a year before 25.

Harley Syn3 or Mobil 1 20/50 or Mobil 1 20/50 V Twin....you need 2 for the engine but it does not fully hold two, it's like 1 3/4...and 1 for the primary/transmission.
