Well, Kim and I are OK, but we had to put our Husky mix, Kayla (the white one), down last night. All you dog lovers out there know what this is like - NOT fun. She had a tumor on her heart that was bleeding. Six excellent years. She's comfortable now, and we miss her like hell. Dog owners, go hug your pup right now for her.

I've got a german shorthair that's closing in on 15 years old. I'm going to dread the day she goes.

Good luck to you, Ratbuell

Thanks everyone, it's so cool to be a part of such a huge, understanding online family : )

The Aussie mix in the pic, Calvin, is 13. I was worried that her going would kill him too, he's been around since she was a pup. He notices she's missing, but no wandering/whining which is good. The pug (2 years old) is definitely keeping him busy!

I know your pain.
My Molly, the sweetest, kindest, most loving friend I have ever had.
14 years, developed cancer.
An operation gave her 6 good months of happiness.
Then it returned, all through her.
I would not let her suffer.
I miss her beyond words.

Joe, sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my Great Dane about a year ago. She was the best baby sitter we ever had. I miss her 135lbs of gentleness. Our other dogs noticed that something was missing but in true dog fashion they help us get through it easier than we could have other wise. I agree, hug your canines today!!

Ratbuell,

Sorry to hear your news. Isn't it amazing just how much a part of your life that dogs become. I'm getting up from the keyboard when I send this message and hug my two in memory of Kayla.

Hang in there.

I feel your pain all too well myself man. It hurts. She is beautiful and definitely has peace.

Rat, it sucks now...but your going to smile days down the road. I had a Dalmation I took nearly everywhere. One day I didn't and he was hit by a car, 12-03-04. I have his collar in a case and smile at it everyday.

My Molly was a Dalmation, German Shepherd mix.
We lost her 2 weeks ago.
I know, someday, I will be able to smile when I think about her.
Now all I do is cry.

Sorry to hear Rat. I had to put my mini dachshund down last summer.

Losing a dog is one of the crappier parts of life.

Ratbuell, sorry for your loss. What is it about these animals that get to us so?

Lost my best cat (thought he was a dog) to a coyote a few years ago. Still miss him.

I know you can't replace your beloved pet, but if you have the means look at this as an opportunity to give another guy (who needs one) a home.

So sorry. I always marvel that we have these weird furry creatures that run around our house and crawl into our lives.

I have a 12 year old Shi Tzu/Pekinese mix who was our first child.

He's getting to the age where I worry that we will come home and he'll have passed away.

For another Badwebber dog lover . . . Vick and I send our deepest sympathies. We just returned from a car ride with Jack the Wonderdog and, as he had his head out the window, I commented that everyone, for one day in their live should be as happy and feel as loved as a dog.

We have pictures of our departed dogs around the house and they really never leave your life.

Peace be with both of you.

Court

That's a good looking family there. It makes me miss my dog badly. Reggie was 110 pounds of loyalty, love, and friendship. Five years after he had to be put down, I still have a hard time thinking about him being gone. I still haven't been able to bring myself to replace him.

We can bicker back and forth all day long on this site about politics and corporate greed, but all of us can come together when the topic is a good dog.

I know how you're feeling, and I'm sorry for your loss.

Yes, give another one your love.

We had just lost one of ours after 17 years.
I told my wife that I wasn't ready to get another.

I called home from work one day.
No answer, I told one of the guys I worked with, "she's probably out getting a dog"

I'm so glad she did.

When I got home I was greeted by Molly.
She got her from the pound. Fully grown, only weighed 21 lbs.

I thought she must be part Whippet, so skinny. And she was sick.

We filled her out to a very healthy 65 lbs.

So save one.

We saved 3 more, that we have now.
All were abandoned.
One was picked up after being thrown from a moving car.(he only bit me about 5 times)
Now, very gentle and would never think of biting me.

I love them all.

So, please, save another.

I will probably save another. She was an adoption; Calvin, my 13 year old, another (also adopted as a puppy). Our pug is the only breeder dog, and its from a friend of my inlaws - no mill. My wife loved pugs and I have to admit I'm getting hooked...but if we get a successor (I hate to say replacement) to Kayla, it'll definitely be from the pound.
