Stinkin' electronic leash is what it is. I use mine as a pocket watch. I don't want the one I have, and definitely don't want a new one. I read text messages when I get around to it. I may listen to a voice message before the end of the day. If I'm on the bike, the Phone is in the side case. The ringer has never been turned on. I don't even know if it works. Sorry, don't like phones.

Jeese this thread makes me feel like some old fart. I don't want my phone to play music or show me how to get to the nearest Walmart.

My phone has a camera that has never been used and some other crap that just gets in the way. I just want the dang thing to ring when come one calls. Dial when I want to talk to some one and that's all. I don't text, I don't gps and I sure don't get naked pictures from underage girls.

Mostly I use mine to check up on my two sons. Where are you, do you need a ride home, that kind of stuff. All three of us share 850 minutes and it cost me just under $100 a month. I'm too poor and cheap spend much more.

I just don't see the need for all the bells and whistles.

Zane I need it for work. If it wasn't for them I would probably have a simple small phone.

I seriously need/want a new phone. I've also got a nice new helmet with a bluetooth receiver. For some reason AT&T just revamped our discount where we're not getting the rebates the rest of the world is being offered, so I'm going to wait it out a little longer. I may end up going to Verizon.
I'm too cheap to go as far as an iPhone, but I want something that will play tunes and that I can make a call or answer while on the bike. It's not for everyone, but for me being connected makes life easier, and tunes make the ride more enjoyable.

Easy rider, if you're using a bluetooth in your helmet, you'll want to be able to do voice dialing. The iPhone does not support it

If I'm on the bike, the Phone is in the side case.

And when your bike is crashed on the side of the road, and you're 100 feet away laying in a ditch with two broken legs, it will still be in your side case. Put the damned thing in your pocket if you have one.

Easy - I don't think most phones will send music via bluetooth. I know the iPhone doesn't.

And it's true, the iPhone doesn't have voice dial, but it does synch up with my Zumo 550 GPS MUCH better than my Verizon phone did, so finding a recent number to call back works now where it didn't before.

And why on earth would you want to answer your phone on the bike, anyways?

What's the difference in answering your phone on the bike and making a call on the bike. Both seem like a bad idea to me.

As far as the phone in your bag versus on your person, I think it is more likely for the phone to survive and be able to be used if it is in your saddlebag versus in your pocket. I know in my get off, I rolled a bit. A phone could have very well been damaged. Thankfully, I was able to get up and get my phone out of my saddlebag and make a call.

But you are all big boys. Make all the calls you want on your bikes. I just think it is funny, with all the negative comments I have read on here about people in cars on their phones and how dangerous they are, that anyone would admit to using a cell phone on their motorcycle.

My phone survived in the map pocket for two years, a dozen small crashes and a big crash that ripped the bag off the bike. Yet a effing pot hole killed it... : (

Just got word my phone came in, gonna pick it up tonight.

I often go riding to get away from the telephone.

There is absolutely no way I would ever put one in my helmet.

I wrote a long winded dribble as to why, but it's best summed up as.

Part of the attraction of riding to me is the isolation.

There are times when talking on the phone while riding is completely inappropriate, but here in Indiana there are plenty of straight stretches that I'm pretty sure an added task will be acceptable. It's not like I can't pull over to accept a call if deemed risky.
The real driver came when I spent an afternoon finding that I had received a message from the wife while out of range, and then riding to find a place that I would be in range to make the return call. It was necessary, but put a damper on the ride.
I've seen bluetooth with voice dialing, the wife's Shine does fine, and I've assumed stereo bluetooth phones transmit the tunes. I'll be sure to check first.

DD - Understand completely. I can/will choose to not turn it on. :-)

Yeah - I did note that in the long winded dribble - and the boredom factor - and if you are running a business and commute on the bike. All valid.

Count my blessings I have none of that.

laying in a ditch with two broken legs

I'll be in shock and won't be calling anyone anyway. ATTGATT is not a cell phone. But if you come along could you loosen my helmet strap for me. Or at least open the visor.
