Can't be a garage, it's too clean & there's no odd bits of "things that will come in useful someday"

Hey Tripp, Thanks and good luck with yours.

Cap, You mean like these...

Lifts

or this?

lift2

Innes, HA! The cabinets are closed.

My trouble is, when my wife see's a clean garage she see's a place to put "stuff". All kinds of "STUFF". It's a mystery to me where all this stuff comes from, but if I can just keep her out...

Timbo I know what you mean, we've got the builders in and I've got 2 bikes in 70sq/m of garage (thats a bit over 600sq/ft for those of you who ain't gone metric) the rest is full of STUFF. I made room to get one of the cars in cos she moaned about having to scrape the frost off the windscreen, she filled the space with ***kin PLANTS "so they don't get frost damage" , tho she did buy me a bike cover for xmas so the M2 doesn't get plant damage!

Timbo :

Your garage is lookin good lately , nice 'n tidy , where did you get that clock ??.

Here's what I have been up to ..................

#77

It belongs to a friend , he had me build it for him to compete in regional races , Canadian thunder has not gone national YET , so last year and this coming season it competes in Calgary against 600's in middlewieght sport bike and in senior open which is pretty much an "anything goes" class for "seasoned" riders , in Edmonton it fits nicely into the Supertwins class ass well as the two already mentioned.

I decided to support this guy , none of the shops in Calgary are putting anny effort or support into Buell racing , just yet , we're hoping that changes. Here's where all the preparation happens , in my home shop. ......................

Hey Jeff,
Wow! #77 looks sooo sweet! He should get points just for that. I hope he does well. I like your set up.

Just curious, how did you get the bike up on your bench? There doesn't look to be enough room to roll it either way.

Oh, got the clock on e-bay.

Timbo:

I built a ramp , or if you have a few large pals haning around , just pick it up and stuff it on the bench , some day I will get one of those fancy Western Mfg. air lifts , like we use at work , for now that one works just fine . I wanna buy another milling machine , a Tig welding machine and maybe a new lathe first , so it will have to wait.

This little stand is kinda handy for engine removal/installation , I use an engine hoist when I'm alone , or a friend when available to help slip the frame over the powertrain.

Timbo,
NICE FLOOR! How much did the paint cost? Was it 2 part epoxy? That's what I want to do to my shop but I spent all my money on a Handy Lift. (pneumatic lift table) Can't have it all, eh?
PS- Did you do the floor yourself or have somebody do it?

YUP ! , extra points being given for geographic location.

What gets me is when I see an otherwise perfctly good garage cluttered with crap , stacked to the rafters with mouldy old furnture and urine soaked mattresses , discarded shit that never made it off the property.

John, your wife surely must know that vans belong outside, right? : )

the pic above is a little misleading. it was taken during Oktoberfast, and as you can see we had a little company over for the weekend.

normally Denise's Camaro hangs out over on the left side, and gets along quite amiably with the resident S2, S1W, and VFR.

Timbo, more info about the floor in your garage, please, and tell us the story of the ironhead Sporty, please. : )

and Hoser, i was really hopin' you'd hang some pix of your garage. and i agree with Timbo: #77 is PFB (pretty f*ckin' bitchin'). more details, please? : )

Timbo, my guess is your floor is the Rust-o-leum garage floor product? I painted mine with that, well, half of it, anyways, and the other half with Griott's much more pricey stuff

could be the weather round here, but now, 18 months later, the Griotts stiff is holding up nicely, and I'll be stripping and repainting the other side this spring

Add another future project to the list.
Wonder how it works in basements.

Bluz

MikeJ, as alwyas, got it right . . .it's a pain to apply, but it's lasted very nicely . . ..

that said, I may have messed up the application of the rustoleum stuff (I don't think so, but it's always possible), and I'm not bad-rapping the product . . . . .simply sharing my own experience, and YMMV

Hey guys,
The floor is done with a product I picked up at Home Depot, can't remember the name just now. Anyway it's a two part epoxy that you mix together and apply as thick as you can with a heavy nap roller. I also used a cleaner/degreaser made for this purpose to prep the floor.

The hardest part was having everything out of the garage for three days. One day to clean (more like, scrub the holy begeebers out of it) and let dry completely. Then coat the floor and then let it cure completely (two days).

It looks like it will be pretty durable. I worked pretty hard at the preparation and they say prep is everything, so we will see.

Cost about $190 to do including the cleaner and hardware.

FTD,
Wow! those all yours? Looks like you have a nice set-up to.

Ferris,
Wish one of my steeds was among that group in your stable. Hopefully next time you have a gathering it will.

The '72 XLCH does have a good story to it. You want the short version or the long version?

Oh, and Cap, congrats on the Handy lift. Now I know what you are talking about...nice. Save up for the floor, it won't take long. It's more work than money to do.

CJ, I think another thanks to you and everyone else that had a hand in the posters is in order.

THANKS

Ok,
I had been wanting to do an Ironhead restoration project for a long time, and had even saved up a chunk of change to get it rolling. At that same time the Sportster List Race Team was forming, in an effort to reclaim the 1000 p/pp record that had been successfuly assaulted by Moto Guzzi at Bonneville. I had applied for the position of pilot for the team, believing I could do well. The Team agreed, but wanted to see me (and several other applicants) ride in person.

The bike to be used for our attempt, Nola, a beautiful XR 1000 was being built in Conyers, GA and the testing would be done in Maxton, NC. This would require my flying out there to show my mettle. Cash was scarce but I did have some saved for my future project. After talking it over with my wife, she said "go for it" and that we could start saving again when I got back.

The owner of Nola, Gene Brauninger, had brought a bone stock 1972 XLCH with him to Maxton. Upon seeing it I told him my dream of restoring one. He mentioned that he picked it up at an auction, that the price was so good he couldn't pass it up. Then offered to sell it to me for what he payed for it. Not having the money or the means to get it home, I thanked him for his kind offer, but declined.

All went well in Maxton and I returned home. It was truly great to finally spend time with people who I had been exchangining email with for so long. It was an experience I will always cherish, and I told my wife about everything, including the Ironhead. How it was exactly what I was looking for. She said "why don't you ask him if he will let you make payments on it?" I was very hesitant to ask this favor from him, but Betty convinced me it couldn't hurt to try.

So I did, and I am very gratefull to Gene for having faith in me and accepting my offer to him for the bike, and I hope he finds favor in what I have done with it since.

There is more to the story from here, but I'm not sure if I'm boring you.

'72 XLCH
