FWIW, when you see this type of ad where there is free shipping to the US when the bike is supposed to be in Chicago, look out. Pre approved bidders only is another flag.

CDolan on Labusas spent a few days searching bogus ads. He liked to print out the "kills". After a week or two he had a stack of printouts 6 inches high.

Try to view that bike in a day or 2 and it will be gone. "invalid item". E-Bay is aware of account and ad highjackings.

If it seems to good to be true..............

Caution list:

#1. Open to pre-approved bidders only. (big red flag on this one)

#2. "Buy it now" only option. Not an auction, which is what E-Bay is supposed to be, or was anyway. Coupled with #1 that also becomes a red flag.

#3. Has only been a buyer and no history under this name as a seller. Yellow flag, no major ding, but nothing to gage either.

#4. Doesn't appear to leave reciprocal feedback. Yellow flag, use caution. Even though there's over a year of history the feedback seems to be one-sided based on a limited check.

#5. Last purchased item was for something under $50. No real flag, but a check of a seller's history and cross-checking links could be a good tactic to use. The possibility does exist that this seller in a fresh victim of E-Bay Identity theft. An email to see what is required for bidding should answer all your questions.

#6. What is "Aral oil"? I've never heard of this brand, which in and of itself means nothing. But for someone who is supposed to be from the Chicago area using an oil from a .ru company ( http://aral-oil.narod.ru/1/aral/all_oil.htm , and http://www.gasandoil.com/goc/company/cnc22605.htm ) should serve as a possible major red flag on the deal.

#7. Odometer pic shows a little over 3900 miles, text states 8,800. Yellow caution flag. If the account was snagged the pics could have been captured off the web someplace. The dealership showroom pic of the bike moves the flag up the scale a bit with a redish tinge.

#8. The seller is supposed to be from the Chicago area, but I can't tell if that's Lake Michigan in the background of the pics. Color the cautionary flag any color you want if you can identify the location from the pics.

The mileage should give this away as a scam. They said 8800 miles but the picture shows 3941. That is a huge difference.

Do like I do, just show up within the pay period with cash and a gun. It works every time.
