ah, the ring! My precious. The one pictured w/ the snotercycle is an overpriced pos. I much prefer my homemade rings. Basic concept is mass de-centralization and more handles/leverage. Mass centralization on our bike makes them change direction quick. I just inverted that concept and it make the camera move smooth. it makes smooth moves and can be held rock steady. It is what I use for shoot out of helicopters too. IMHO every small cam needs one.      it is spray painted PVC and cost about 5 bucks. Every time I'm on a big set or shoot, most production people love it. Then their jaw drops after they use it and realize it cost less than their coffee. Also notice my right hand thumb controls zoom/focus/iris/rec all controlled by my thumb. | ||

~The Ring~ What about suspending it like a studio mic? Create a baseplate frame that bolts to the tripod mount underneath the camera and then add a metal loop all the way around the camera with hooks points that is mounted to the baseplate. Then suspend the camera with the baseplate contraption on it with strong bungies to the outer larger ring that you have your hands on with the camera controls. Would that work or would it create to much residual movement? I sent this thread to my father as you and him enjoy the exact same type of career. Noice! I made a new rig so I can mount my handy cam on the flash shoe of the Canon. The dummy shoe fitting was $12, a pipe clamp and a cable tie and I can do stills and vid at the same time. | ||
