It's not a bobber if it comes from the factory that way.
It's just a great bike.

Bobber: Bike relieved of excess geegaws...
Chopper: Bike modified with custom modified parts, usually with frame mods. Tons of fabrication and wailing with the magic hammer and the shot bag..the bike becomes saturated with the builder's karma.
Custom: Made world famous by the various reality TV shows...made of off the shelf manufactured parts with a couple of "twists" for an attempt at uniqueness.

I will add that most "tweaked" bikes share various design features from all three categories.

Just because the name "bobber" bugs me....
Never heard that name until it started appearing in bike mags a few years ago. I only remember choppers, being stripped of parts (or parts chopped off). It was very rare that somebody either didnt have an extended front end or the back end wasnt lowered to give the illusion of an extended front end. Maybe "bobber" is a very old term from the fifties that hardly saw any use for 20 or 30 years. I dont recall ever seeing any "bobbers" being built or running around until 'recent' years. To me its a 'safe way' to get that old chopper style without the hassles of poor handling.

Also, seats with springs were for sissies. Take the seat and mount it directly on the frame-thats a hardtail! Anything else is just a rigid framed motorcycle.
I've done a lot of miles on a hardtail. You learn to watch the road for bumps and miss every one! Almost crippled a girlfriend and didnt find out the damage I was doing to my own back 'till I stopped riding it.But man did it handle!
We get old: ( and hardtails arent as 'practical' anymore.
Hardtails look cool and you can get a very low seat height (usually the point). Often you'd bolt or weld a rigid rear frame onto a once sprung bike. That dropped the seat height a good 4 inches or more.
