Lemonchili and I went down to Sydney in the last week, and took a few happy snaps of bits and pieces in our wanders. Thought I'd put a few up for a look.

The Road to Gundagai

The mountain road goes up and down
From Gundagai to Tumut Town
And, branching off, there runs a track
Across the foothills grim and black,

Across the plains and ranges grey
To Sydney city far away.

It came by chance one day that I
From Tumut rode to Gundagai,

And reached about the evening tide
The crossing where the roads divide;

And, waiting at the crossing place,
I saw a maiden fair of face,

With eyes of deepest violet blue,
And cheeks to match the rose in hue --

The fairest maids Australia knows
Are bred among the mountain snows.

Then, fearing I might go astray,
I asked if she could show the way.

Her voice might well a man bewitch --
Its tones so supple, deep, and rich.

"The tracks are clear," she made reply,
"And this goes down to Sydney Town,
And that one goes to Gundagai."

Then slowly, looking coyly back,
She went along the Sydney track

And I for one was well content
To go the road the lady went;

But round the turn a swain she met --
The kiss she gave him haunts me yet!

I turned and travelled with a sigh
The lonely road to Gundagai.

I've been to Darwin before, it was ok. More country then urban I felt. Didnt find the night life scene. Sydney would be the place to go I imagine. Went to a crocodile farm though, that was pretty cool.

Every part of the country is so very different from the next in scenery and culture.

But yes, I am going to go there someday!

(Not me in the photo)
My friends have a flat just outside of the sydney bridge. What I found amazing was the wild parrots. I loved to feed them bread with a dollop of honey on it.

I made a little friend while there, it didn't fit into my luggage... I tried...

Another friend of mine... I got to hold this guy, very grumpy. He didn't fit into my luggage either. : (

Friends of mine are involved with a animal sanctuary. This newborn black rhino was not publicly viewable. Notice there is nothing between them and me. The little one approached me, and then this happened...

Talk about pissing your pants. I of course ran, the game keeper yelled to stand perfectly still (they can't see well).
I escaped, but not before I got to touch the mother. She felt like fresh asphalt.

Good times, good times...

Don't say that : (

I took an atv into the outback to see the red 'roos in person. Very majestic creature.

You know how you guys feel about deer?

Remember I live in the city, so when I see a deer it is an absolute treat.

I know most Aussies view the 'roos as a pest, but as a tourist they are quite possibly one of the neatest creatures.

Question: Aren't there more kangaroos than people?

Austrailia looks so badass! Sydneys a wild looking city. Oh, can I have a wallaby? They're really expensive here. On the pest note, Kangaroos kinda look like deer, our pests. Coincidence?

Most places in Aus I don't ride in the country at night because of the danger of hitting 'roos.

As soon as the sun goes down I either slow right down or preferably stop.

I like that picture of the new Anzac Bridge and the one of the car, it must be an early model Ford because it has a real metal grille and bumper.
I used to work on the corner of Bridge & Pitt Streets in Sydney, up near Circular Quay and used to walk up around the Rocks area, Botanic Gardens, Domain and Opera House.
I even had a second job at the Opera House serving coffee at intermission.
I live in Newcastle now and have done since 1984 and avoid Sydney like the plague..............too many cars and too many people.

I rode on a bus from Sydney to the Gold Coast (~15hrs).

During the night we hit several 'roos. The Aussies seemed to enjoy my stunned confusion over the situation.

I am trying to find a good photo of a 'roo bar on one of their busses. After seeing one in person, I am starting to think Mad Max was not a post apocalyptic film, but instead an every day documentary.

'roo bar and a big truck.

The Ford is my Dad's '64 Fairlane (compact). 2nd owner, he's had it since '67.

Yes, the 'Roo population is similar to the human population, not sure on exact numbers.

I've never hit one, but I've been very close. DD is right, it can be very dangerous at dawn and dusk.

Glad you folks liked the pics : )
Nice work Glitch!
