Hoser...thanks for the pics and description! That will definitely be helpful. I currently have my motor pulled and on a cradle like they show in the service manual. Works for getting the motor out but it's good service work.

Look like I'll be doing some welding in the next few days: )

What camara's you guy looking at?
I purchased a Canon A70 last year.
Killer 3.2M pixel camara.
The new A80 is a 4.2M unit. A70 is less the $300, the A80 is less tha $400!
They take cheap CF cards. Easily fit in a pocket.

Tons of great camaras out there now.

Bluz, i gotta start out cheap, but want the best. i'm eyeing the Nikon Coolpix 2100. it'll do everything i need right now, for a mere $159.

what card are you running in your A70? ever use the macro feature?

Here's my small effort. Just got the lift yesterday. Been wanting one for ages. Got it up to put on the SuperTrapp. Too damn cold to go riding, 23F and a foot of snow.

Direct Lift Pro-Cycle XLT. The dealer I got mine from was real good to work with and sells them on ebay as well as at this link.

http://www.benco-equipment.com/

go to lifts and select Pro-Cycle XLT for the one like mine with removable side extensions that let me use it for the ATV as well, or Pro-Cycle for the same lift without the extensions.

Don't let the quoted weight fool you into thinking its flimsy. This sucker is built like a tank and I think they misquote the weight deliberately to save on freight.

Wycked,
I just picked up a Canon Digital Rebel tonight and am amazed by the shit it can do.

Not to mention that my existing Canon AF lenses will mount up!!!!!!!!!

Bit pricey up here but over the long term will be worth it.

6.3mega pixel oooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

To bad my printer is a measley HP deskjet 3322...I took a raw image to a camera store and had them print it out since my printer won't do the image justice. It totally looked like a pic done by a pro.

Speaking of GARAGES. I was just out in mine changing boots to do some yard work. Felt a prick on the side of my foot and looked down to find a young female black widow caught between my foot and my boot. Gave up on yard work...back inside now watching the foot for adverse reactions.

Ferris - California Gleamin'?

Must be the toxins kicking in.

Loki,

I was very hesitant about the price!!!

BUT - certainly glad I did now, I used to take a lot of photos and started with:

1. Yashica 230AF - great little learner camera, full auto SLR with manual overrides.
2. Contax RTSII with a complement of Carl Zeiss lenses, that was a full manual focus with built in light meter and had a power winder that would shoot 5 frames per second in high speed mode. The problem with that one is at the time I had a Metz 45 flash and the camera, winder and flash took 18AA batteries and weighed a ton. I still marvel over the quality of those German Optics.
3. Sold the Contax and picked up a Canon Elan 7 with a 28-80mm and 75-300mm lenses. I love that thing will do exposure bracketing, depth of field preview, shoot 3.3fps, focus tracking and all. BUT its NOT Digital
4. A few months back when the Rebel Digital came out I was amazed, it does everything the Elan 7 does but more AND its 6.3mp Digital. It even takes my two existing lenses for the Elan 7. I can't wait to start shooting again. The best thing is the viewer I can shoot and if I don't like it then delete and shoot again.

A definate recommendation on this camera.

OH yeah,

I also have an old Yashica 124G - twin lens medium format unit that takes a picture where the quality would knock your socks off.

Thanks Newfie.

Have been thinking about doing a serious upgrade. I miss my old Yashica FX3. Having only a 1.3 megaPix is kinda limiting. I was looking at a SLR and a new digital.....then read the review on the Canon. Ought to be able to kill both birds with one shot.

Dino, tried to reach you on your cell awhile ago, no answer, figured you were probably in the emergency room getting a dose of epinephrine along with the shock paddles.

i've been poked by a scorpion before, but haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting Ms. B. Widow up close 'n personal. glad you're ok.

sheesh, some people will do most anything to get out of a little yard work...

Loki I have had my Canon since November. All of the bike pics you have seen posted by me were taken using the canon. It is just what Newfie says it is.

If you would like an example of how clear it will shoot let me know and I will make a full pic straight from the flash card available on the web for you to print out since what is printed is a hell of a lot different then what you see on a monitor.

Wycked,

Appreciate the thought, I didn't bring my printer with me on the trip. Canon looks to have a real winner in the line up again. One of the draw backs they mentioned was its loud shutter. Just how loud? Not that it really matters.... I mean, I don't think I will startle any inanimate objects with it.

Loud Shutter!!!!!!!

Compared to the smaller digital point & shoot cameras its loud. Some of those things are virtually silent with the exception of the beep that tells you the camera has taken a picture.

The shutter is actually quieter than my Elan 7's shutter. You have to realize exactly what you are getting with the Digital Rebel. Its a full blown Automatic SLR with focus tracking, three metering systems and a multitude of other options that will let you do almost any type of creative photography. The shutter has to open, the rear curtain is raised, mirror flips up and then everything is back in place. This can also happen at 1/4000 sec if you want it to. A neat feature I discovered it will do exposure bracketing and take only one photo, the microprocessor will do the bracketing. With a film camera you have to physically take three frames.

Loud Shutter - thats a good one - thanks for the laugh.

At least I got a snort out of Newfie.

Photoshop Elements. In the image screen I first adjust the resolution down to 72dpi since that is suppossed to be the maximum rated dpi that can be visually seen on a computer monitor*. Then I adjust the size of the pic. That usually brings it down to 100kb-200kb. Then I Save for Web and usually use medium for the jpeg optimization which usually drops the file size down to 19kb-30kb depending on how detailed the pic is.

*72dpi suppossedly looks the same as 100dpi or even 1000dpi when veiwed on a monitor at the image size we are using here.

Another reason why I love this place where I live.

There are absolutely NO SNAKES (unless some twit bring them in as pets), NO POISIONOUS or VENOMOUS Insects, no dangerous animals apart from Moose.

Worst thing here are black flies and mosquitos - hell even the bees and wasps are friendly.
