No worries there, I've been there twice and couldn't find it again to save my soul. Talk about the "middle of nowhere" But great steaks.

We should hit it when we are up there for the Buell Homecoming rally.

John, will you be our guide?

Oh and PS, Track days at BlackHawk
Aug 23rd
Oct 4th
Give you a chance to "earn" that steak!

Ride to the edge!

Blake said "Scrap,
"Can I ride?"

Dude! You have to ask? Dang schedule is AWOL on the CMRA site or I'd tell you when the first race weekend at OHR is. Middle of February sometime."

The first race at OHR is scheduled for February 21-22. The first race at Hallett is scheduled for May 21-23.

Thanks Keith. Now go finish analizing your F3 so it will look pretty when you pass me and leave me for dead halfway through the RRC. : ] Fifty friggin minutes! I'm still not sure about living through that. Definitely need a track day to try it out.

Yeah that OHR track looks pretty nasty. Raw HP doesn't mean anything at a track like that. You have to really ride the bike and work the track.

THE track

Turn 1a

Does this look like a "shit hole"? I say no.

Turning-in to turn 7
Turn-in

My first track day I got buzzed by an RS80. Sure I was on a stock '97 M2 with D205 street tires, but man, that sure put me in my place. I be slow.

If you haven't ridden on the track yet, please give it a go. Too much fun! I got into it just by hanging around, stoping by to watch a practice session here and there, then working corners (best seat for the races), then racers' school, track days, and finally actually racing.

FB? ; )

FB?

i've spent a little time on tracks -- Portland Speedway, Portland International Raceway, Seattle International Raceway, Laguna Seca, both tracks at Willow Springs -- and have done two Keith Code Schools (i'm probably the only student of theirs to ever get waved off the track THREE times during the first session, for, um, riding in a Hooliganesque fashion -- go figure...), and one school put on by Tom Sera/Fastrack Riders.

but i've never actually RACED on a track.

Willow Springs is all of about an hour and a half from me, and i know several guys who compete there regularly.

having said all that, it's a concept that intrigues me, and one that frightens me as well. knowing my personality, it's something that i would get addicted to IMMEDIATELY.

but i hate the concept of crashing, which i KNOW i would eventually, not only from a physical pain standpoint, but also from the standpoint of wadding up a perfectly good motorcycle (in this case a Buell) in the process.

so far i have successfully resisted the urge to get out there and slice and dice with the gang, and at my age i think it's not a bad strategy to continue.

where i HAVE gotten my fix over the years is on various BattleTrax courses. big fun. lots of adrenaline, but relatively safe speeds and considerably less consequences if one gets in too deep.

i know the boys over on the BORG think that men who do BattleTrax also eat quiche, but i'm willing to bet the ones who think that way have never actually gotten out there and tried it.

and i'm also willing to bet that if they DID, they probably got their ass handed to them.

anyway, Blake, if Cecil will let me borrow his ZX-12 i bet I can show you the fast way around OHR.

how's THAT for a stupid challenge??? ; )

There are only 1 or 2 folks on the Borg who think that way & Cecil happens to be one of them. He would probably beat me on a track day, but I would smoke him bad at a B-trax event: D

In my best Johnny Carson... "I did not know that."

I recall your drag racing adventure, didn't recall you expounding on any track days. You've ridden Laguna Seca! You suck. Expound please as you do so well. I wanna live a lap around that legendary track, at least the corkscrew.

Dude, one of my good friends owns a ZX12R. I'm sure he'd let you crash run it at OHR if you put up for some insurance. LOL!

What is really sad is that I know the fast way around, it's just the time it takes to trace that route that is killing me. I'm very hesitant on the turn-in and on the throttle exiting. I'm REAL hesitant through turn 1. For me anyway, there is a huge difference in hanging it out on a slow turn versus a high speed sweeper with a dip at the apex. To keep things settled you have to put your tire on about a one foot wide strip right at the very edge of the track at the apex of 1b. Drift a bit wide with your butt still on the seat and you nearly get bucked off. I swear one time I was sure that my tires tracked over the very inside edge of the asphalt. Major pucker factor.

To tell the truth, I don't think it would be a stupid challenge at all. And if you unlike some others will refrain from insulting me by proclaiming that my favorite motorcycle is a worthless piece of shit, I might even concede. Nah.

Peace and love brother,

Blake

nothing grand and glorious to report re: my time on tracks, i'm afraid, just a couple of schools here and there, and a few parade laps and the like (albeit some of those "parade" laps were at high rates of speed).

i'm way too old, poor, and afraid of pain to seriously consider taking up racing. like i said above, i'm pretty sure i'd get addicted to it, and i'm pretty sure i'd eventually crash.

my passion for riding began in earnest in 1972, when i bought my first street bike. i LIVED for the adventure of heading out into the "unknown", and i still do.

i LOVE to adventure ride, and racing doesn't intrigue me enough to make me want to choose IT over heading up in to the mountains for a weekend when it comes to deciding how to allocate the very little time and resources i have available these days to devote to motorcycling.

that isn't to say i don't like the competition aspect, and that's one of the things i like so much about hammering around a BattleTrax course.

anyway, i'm just funnin' about coming down there and showing you the fast way around -- i'm not nearly as talented as my mouth might make it seem.
