Gents, After a few close calls, I'll be picking up a nice low milage 01 M2 tomorrow. Got a comment and a question. Seems the heavy stock pistons cause a lot of the vibration that Buells are famous for. I did a Thunderstorm conversion on a Sportster last year. I used the Weisco K1700 (Buell) pistons. They are much lighter than the stock pistons and I was pleased the vibration seemed no worse than the stock 883. Seems these pistons would be just the thing to cure some of the Buell vibration problems. Also, I've got a set of "W" (Sport) grind cams on hand. Has anybody tried these in an M2 and how did they work out? Thanks Cliff | ||

Congrats on the M2, you're going to love it. Buell engines vibrate more than Sportster engines because they have lighter flywheels. I don't believe that changing pistons will be much help in the vibration area; but I could be wrong. If your bike has the latest factory upgrades (isolators, exhaust hanger,rocker box gaskets), then it should be pretty much trouble free. I've got over 30,000 on my M2, and it's stone reliable. | ||

After you ride the M2 the sportster will feel like a paint shaker. On my M2 you only feel the vibrations at idle. Have fun with the new bike. It won’t be hard. | ||

Lots of vibration at idle, Just roll on the throttle and everything become a very nice smooth blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. | ||

Hmmm,in y2000 Buell switched to the pressed together crank that they advertised as 14% lighter than the held together with nuts version.Buell's Thunderstorm,JE thunderstorm,Wiseco thunderstorm, don't list a separate weight piston for each style crank.  For what it's worth,iv'e got the Wiseco t-storms in my 2000 M2 and noticed no change whatsoever in the amount of vibration versus the stock Buell pistons. On the cam question i'm not familiar with the "w" grind but when Aaron W. or one of the Sporster guys see your posts,i'm sure they can answer your questions. | ||

i've read the kv pretty much top to bottom on the cams for m2 issue as well as several recent quickboard posts and people have mentioned the w cam but not a lot of people are using it yet it seems, i think it's a relatively new grind. imo the most popular grinds are n4(lightning cams), n6, se bolt-in & 536. i still haven't decided, i want to get my heads done so i'm not sure if i should do it yet or if there is an ideal cam that will be great now and great when i get the heads done, or if i should just wait till the heads are done and go with those monster torque cams Blake uses the t580 or something like that. | ||

Don't know about the W grind cams, I used 10 degree domed Weisco (11 -1) and 536 se cams. Vibrates like a jack-hammer till about 2K. From 2K till 7K (where I set Dyna) yee-ha. | ||

Cliffb, I second what Newfie says. Above 3K you won't even notice the vibes if you've been riding a Sportster. No numb hands!  |
