No country's flag is to be flown above another during Peace time.
There is only one flag that is allowed to fly above the American flag, and that is only in one place on Earth: The United Nations complex in New York City.
Chadr81- I do the same thing when I see tattered flags. I collect them and turn them over to the local high school JROTC program and they see they are properly disposed of. Sidenote- Our local HD dealership in Naples, Fl has an old mailbox converted to accept unserviceable flags and a local group (It may be the VFW- not sure) disposes of them.
"I pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag and to the Savior for whose Kingdom it stands. One Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again with life and liberty to all who believe."
I think his knife was fine, he was just so pissed he couldn't get the job done quickly. Many thanks to the guy who had to balls to rectify the situation. One of my "things" is proper use and display of our flag. Being that I've served for nearly 20 years in the Air Force, it really bothers me when it is displayed improperly or used in what I consider to be bad taste. In my opinion the flag should only be displayed as a flag not napkins, shower curtains, flag like shirts, etc etc etc.
That's one of the reasons I came to the conclusion this country has screwed up morals. There was far more outrage at Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" during that Superbowl than Kid Rock cutting a hole in the flag and wearing it as a poncho at that SAME half time show. WTF??
I like Kid Rock.... but I will say that kinda pissed me off...
I think someone should have taken it from him and explained how disrespectful it is to make a poncho out of the flag.... then stuff up Jane Fonda's A$$... but that's just me....
That was great. But to all the comments from you guys about proper flag presentation and what-not, realize they don't teach that in school, most parents don't teach that. I only found out things from buddies in the service. So if you see someone doing something wrong, be nice and learn them some proper respect for old glory before you go flying off the handle. And to the guy in the clip, thanks for your service at and I think that was great but I woulda left our flag and taken thiers. BTW if I ever see ya I'm shootin 'quila with ya! on me!
As a Boy Scout, I had a neat job in high school. When ever the first drop of rain fell, no matter what class I was in, I grabbed someone to help (preferably another scout) and ran out to the flag. We would properly lower and fold the flag and take it to the office.
A Boy Scout troop can also properly dispose of flags.
A couple days after our last hurricane blew through here (South Mississippi) I noticed there was a Flag the city had up on a light pole that had it's rigging all messed up. It was about 3/4 mast and blowing freely. This was all in the median on Hwy 90.
I parked the car and went to try to lower the flag to take it to city hall. I couldn't reach the rigging so I decided I was going to have to shimmy up the pole. I didn't get 4 ft off the ground and heard a chirp of a police siren and saw the lights on when I looked back.
I got down and he said don't worry about it, he was calling the F.D. At first I was worried he was going to be a typical idiot I usuall encounter out in public. I sensed that he got my dedication to the Flag.
Just yesterday, Friday, I was in the audience at a retirement for one of my former shipmates. As in all the retirement ceremoies they performed the passing of the Flag ceremony. On this YT video it shows the ceremony. This is from another ceremony not the one I was at but the ceremony is the same. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YclrvcBkWgw&feature =related
I think the store owner had no idea he was doing it wrong and could've been shown the proper way to fly "Old Glory". Admittedly I don't know the back story but it seems to me his heart may well have been in the right place as he was flying the old "Stars and Bars". Proper flag etiquete is a pet peave of mine and it drives me crazy. Without trying to slam anyone I will go ahead and say that I have seen US Army units flying the flag backwards on their uniforms !!! Honestly now that's just crazy. They had the flag on the right sleeve of their uniform and the stars weren't on the leading edge !!! Disgrasefull at best !!! I'm with "Thesmaz" I don't think flag paraphenalia is proper ie. the tee shirts, stickers, and all that other pseudo patriotic shit. If you really wanted to display a flag then you would learn the proper etiquete and do it right. Nearly all the police forces have it on their cars and uniforms wrong too. The biggest help in learning how to do it right was the effing destruction of MY twin towers. That in itself is a shame and a half !!! Ok I'm done now.
